They will try and push whatever they want. I'd love to see Nintendo's advertising costs for Everyone's General Knowledge Training TV - Wii in Japan. They pushed it and pushed it, for weeks after the launch. The TV advertising spend must have been many, many times higher than the cost to develop the software itself.
They totally thought it was going to be the next Brain Training phenomenon, and do crazy number on the Wii and it's new found audience, but ultimately sales were pretty poor, especially considering how much it was pushed.
Wario Land Shake has had a lot of TV advertising too...
