So, there's the three versions of the game - N64, GC and DS. The N64 got released only in Japan and got ported to GC. Despite AC being a N64 port, it sold in Japan about four times the N64 versions sales. The DS version sales in Japan, are roughly five times the GC version (250k-1M-5M). In Americas GC version sold about 1,9 million and Wild World about 2,1 million. Sales in others were GC version 170k (note late launch) and WW 2,7M. Which shows, that the franchise is on the "rise".

The overall sales of the franchise is just a bit short from 13 million, from which Wild World accounts for 9,68M and GC version 2,98M.

Animal Crossing Wii, introduces the Wii Speak (not bundled with the software), feature, which without doubt will push the sales even further, or atleast until the Wii Speak will be used in other games too, or have other uses outside games.

So, i guess it's safe to say that it is the best-seller during christmas, but how much it ends up selling overall?

I'm not going to bet on it passing Wild World, even though I think it has a good chance to, but I think there's no doubt it'll pass 5 million, and probably also 8 million without much trouble.

I never knew AC was an N64 game.........Im dont know what to think now.....

Based on that I can comfortably say that the new Animal crossing will sell over 5million world wide easily, sell over 700,000 copies in japan only, and have sell legs inbetween SSBB and MKWii

I hope AC is in the same leg race as Mkwii or SSBB... then sell to at least around 10 million.

What's interesting is, that Wild World did more than 50% of it's sales in Japan (where DS has a huge installbase), when in Americas Wild World did practically the same as GC version, despite GC having smaller installbase. But, where the growth can be expected, is in others. Animal Crossing for GC was in the market for 1,5 years, before the DS version came out, so it didn't have time to get "late" sales.

8 million, as you said, may very well be accurate. Depending how "transition" between DS gamers and Wii gamers succeeds.

i think it will be huge, somewhat like SSBB or Mario Galaxy, but not like Mario kart....

10 million sold on Ds gives it a lot of popularity + it's one of the only Nintendo titles in the holidays....

Yeah, I think that AC Wii will definitely sell less in Japan than Wild world did, but a lot more in Others. America should be pretty much the same, maybe more.
