Forums - Nintendo - RE4 Rip-Off!!!!!

You should of brought it when EB has their 50% off. That was last week in Brissy! RE 4 Rox :D

Actually Eb games isn't expensive. I mean I have brought alot things on discount and all the specials they have is quite frequent.  I think most Aussie have a good attitude with their money. If you can see value to it, then it is worth the cost, i.e. ps3 I think most countries would go that is way too expensive, but Aussies are like well - you get a ps3, blue ray, free internet etc. Maybe that's just me and the ppl I know but I think we see the broken down value.

Aussie are really high consumers - Look at mobile phones :P

Also remember that the price in the US dollars doesnt include Taxes, where as our RRP is what you pay at the register, unlike the US. You'll also find that if you had shopped around, JB Hifi has had the game around the AUS$67 mark. As for you Kwaad, the Wii version runs in anamorphic 16:9 in 480p, a big improvement from the GC version.

the PS2 version ran at 16x9

The only improvement is 480p, and in all honesty, if you have a SDTV, you cant do that, and if you have a good HDTV, you would be hard-pressed to tell the diffrece from 480p and NTSC.

I fly this flag in victory!

meh.

what you complaining about this is normal for AUS.

look at our xbox360 and ps3 games most are $120AU when they first come out.

Hmm, at least for Europe, i can't understand the complains. In Germany RE4 - WII has a UVP of 40 €. So lets calculate with that.

First you have to calculate of the taxes (19% in Germany): 33,61 €.

Next step, calculate out the bigger margin for stores (They need to be bigger here than in the US). I would say, at least 3€: 30 €.

Now you have to subtract the import taxes (The game are most likely produced in china). They are higher for the EU that in US, i think i read somewhere 3$) means 2.20 €: 28 €

So, you have to calculate that you need for Germany (because thats the way in Germany somehow) a German booklet and the game needs to be translated. Cost for this you must divide by numbers of sells. Where will we end? I say 3 € is a "got to go": 25 €

The Americans have also another "advantage". The international trade is done in $. If you sell something in another currency, you have to calculate in the exchange rate change to your disadvantage. Know the company just can change the price every day, so most likely they pay something to an insurance that cover things like that. I would say 1 € per game: 24 €.

So know lets calculate the $$ out of it: 32.7 $. So that means a price difference of 2.7$. Not so much anymore.

The 50% sales is still going on over here on the Sunshine Coast, it doesn't apply to new AAA titles.

Already discussed this RE4 issue in another thread. Many/most Wii games now retail for $80 here, which is still cheaper than most 360/PS3 titles ($100 or $120).

I believe the RE4 prices are simply retailers milking consumers - not uncommon for a new, high profile title.

By my reckoning, I think retailers are purchasing the game for about $37AU - so the price should come down quickly. I'll happily pick it up for either $50 or $60 (it really should retail for about $49...).

...

By comparison, "old" PS2 titles can be bought for 3 for $55. Its hard for any console to compete against these software prices (most are "old" stock, or pre-owned titles - being resold for a huge premium).

Hah... You complain too much. Here, a totally legalized game costs about US$150.

Not that I'm really proud of it >_<

One other thing I'd like to add regarding pricing in various regions is taxes.

In the U.S., sales taxes are not included in the price quoted. If you live in Delaware, there are no sales taxes. If you live in Pennsylvania (like I do), there's a 6% sales tax that makes a $50 game actually cost $53. In Europe and Australia there's 'valued added tax' (VAT). It's built into the price you pay and ranges from 10% in AU to over 20% in some European countries.

Just something to keep in mind when you're comparing prices. A lot what you're paying is going to your government.

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

Well thats EBay...so it doesn't really count, but it's worth checking out anyway.

RRP is £40 for a wii game in the UK which is about AU$93 but if you shop around you can get most games for 30 - 35 or even lower. I got RE4 for £23 which is Au $53.

I think it's really bad that Capcom sells it to the retailers as a budget game then the shops put it at full price as they feel that they can milk it for more money, but does mean that less games get sold then it would at a budget price, hence Capcom actually loses out as they are taking less of a cut per game.
The worst thing is that these sites and shops are actually lying about the RRP.

Of course I'd like it cheaper but I just don't think it's fair of Australians to demand exactness with the USA when we have less than 10% the people.

Resident Evil 4 Wii should not cost more than double the price it does in the USA. Anyway we are dealing with a global market here so it isn't like the copies made for Australia are in TOTAL isolation.
