Forums - Sony - Would a FFVII remake overshadow FFXIII exclusivity loss?

CGI-Quality said:

Do you think a PS3 remake of FFVII would make up for the heartbreaking loss of exclusivity of FFXIII for PS3 owners? And does FF Vesus XIII remaining exclusive help close up the wound to us PS3 owners?

Your Thoughts?

First, FF verses XIII was a PS3 exclusive before the announcement. Maintaining it as an exclusive was expected. It heals nothing. The only real purpose for that title, from a fanboy perspective, is to have a game with the ability to slightly marginalize the gaping wound that is FFXIII multiplatforming.

As for FFVII remake, yes, it would go a long way to help heal the FFXIII fiasco.

However, if FFVII remake were a multiplat game, or a 360 timed exclusive, the damage to PS3 fanboys everywhere would be renewed. The wound reopened, and nothing short of a decades worth of time, could heal that wound.

FFXIII on 360 was an epic announcement, right there with FFVII on playstation. It will be remembered for generations to come, and has a permanent page in gaming history. Nothing will change that, however, a remake of the favorite jrpg ever would also warrant a mention in that book, and though not a groundbreaking, earthshattering bomb, it certainly would be a huge and major announcment, and a big boost to the PS3 and its percieved poor jrpg selection, and Sony's apparent lack of willingness to persue 3rd party support with incentives of its own device.

I think definitely to FFVII, somewhat to FFvXIII.

FFVII remake has just been talked about sooo much that there's already kind of a hype for it. Imagine what it'd be like if it was actually confirmed.

As for FFvXIII, it does close the wound, but just a little. While it's not a spinoff, it will always have a secondary status next to FFXIII in the eyes of the majority.

PSN: chenguo4
Current playing: No More Heroes

yes infact a remake (exact leave it all the same except minor changes and of course graphics) of FFVII, if indeed it truely stayed exclusive to the ps3, would cancel out the blow of FFXIII multiplat. why?

well FFVII is regarded as one of the best not only in the FF series but in all RPG's. its talked about from gamers of the playstion1 generation all the time. and the younger kids never got a chance to play it. so with the sales of the older people wanting to replay a spectactular game and the hype and reviews of the first version will cause the younger gamers to buy it.

not only will it be a system seller, it would probably give halo 3 a run for its money (first day sales, weekly sales, all-time sales, thats what i maen for "a run for its money")

Agreed, that being said I dont own a PS3 and would love versus to follow its big brother FFXII on to the 360.

I think ill get my anti-flame sheild out now.

You don't need a flameshield. Every non-fanboy should want the good games they play to be shared by as many people as possible. Sony is a console's company. You should never allow the PS3 to become your companie's console.

Supporting gaming and hoping for 3rd party game to become multiplats is truely an unassuming gift to your gaming brothers, be they 360, PS3, or Wii owners.

As a PS3less person, I lately find myself wishing games like Gears of War and Fable 2 were multiplats, and I'm disgusted with fanboys on this site who flame games simply because they don't appear on their console-de'jour. I wish everyone could enjoy the great games I play, and love them like I do. Selfish people who only care about the corporation that produces their hardware, and those that have resentful scorn for gamers who chose a different path, are truely below my contempt. Because you walk the path of the righteous man, you are immune to the petty flames and inequities of the weak, and the tyrrany of evil men.

"Wound to PS3 owners" What?

What game do you not get to play?

It wasnt about that it was that Square - 1. promised it would remain exclusive  2. claimed it was taking full advantage of PS3 (even tho they still say this despite the multiplat announcement) and  3. people were really looking forward to buying a PS3 for this exact title and how much of that was a slap in the face basically saying: "hey Sony look your biggest rival will have your biggest exclusive along with u" that's basically the same if Sony went after Gears 3 how bad would that affect M$ if their biggest rival took their (technically) second best exclusive and made it a PS3 multiplat title.

1. Companies lie.

2. How is that different than pre-release hype for any game, then after release they say "we only used XX% of the power".

3. -First, it never was Sony's. It's Square Enix's

-Second, Sony owns a small portion of SE, they have the movie distribution rights; Sony probably had an offer to keep exclusivity.  They will probably make back everything exclusivity lost.

Why does it matter to you if one system sells more than another if both are selling well and profitable?

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

That wasn't my point to this thread - Yes more people enjoying the game is fine but I didnt buy a 360 to play FFXIII or Devil May Cry 4 and I didnt buy a PS3 to play Gears or Halo and I didnt buy a Wii to play Uncharted or Mass Effect- see where Im going here I have all three sytems and like all three systems but I bought all three systems to play that system's respective exclusives not to play the same game on all three systems bottom line :  Gears/Halo= Xbox360, Heavy Rain/Killzone 2= PS3, SSBB/Mario Kart Wii= Nintendo Wii I bought all to enjoy variety not the same that's all I'm sayin. Those people who truly may have finally wanted a PS3 so that they could have one of the games that attracated them to the Sony brand in the first place now are wondering what happened and should they even bother with a PS3 and that sucks for Sony.

If all consoles could play all games, it would truely be better for every gamer. Software would be based off its own merit, and option and competition would drive games to be better and cheaper. Preying against that has no argument that doesn't include a hint at system wars somewhere deep down.

That said, I wasn't flaming you, or this thread. I was simply responding to the poster who was afraid to state his opinions, because he felt he might get flamed. Anyone who would flame another, on that issue, is being selfish and elitist.

Saying, "Well just spend the money and buy X if you want to play X" is missing the point. We're talking about things getting better, not functional solutions on game X, under the current flawed method. Most conversations on this site are hypothetical. So is this one.

Only in the impossible case of one console in this world would everyone play and enjoy the same games. Otherwise this will never happen and in my opinion i don't find it healthy actually. Different games in different consoles increase the competition and this drives developers to create better games and find new ideas/ways of play/etc. Competition and pluralism is the spice of videogames life.

Why does it matter to you if one system sells more than another if both are selling well and profitable?

I know it didn't belong to Sony but everytime we (PS fans) turn around another PS -only title goes multiplat I said the same about Bioshock and Lost Planet coming to PS3 that they too should've remained exclusive to the 360. Why buy different systems if these games will end up on all of them anyway - that makes no sense, I do understand that exclusives are more costly than in previous generations I just think it's better to have a system that has different games from the rest that's all I'm sayin

And no multiplatform game takes full advantage of one console's hardware and this gen has REALLY taught us that especially in the case of PS3 ports.

Disclaimer: I plan on owning all three consoles.  This will sound like I am hating on the PS3, but I'm not.  I have said a lot of nice things about the PS3 (though not always Sony).

Most cross platform ports suffered more when they were ported to PS3 than the ones ported to the 360.

What does it really matter if Lost Planet looks slightly better on 360 or if FFXIII looks slightly better on PS3?

It's still the same game, and will fail or suceed on the merits of the game and the marketing department.

Only a slight handful of people would be able to tell the difference when they aren't next to each other.  Very few of the people who could, would care.

theyll probably see how versus sells first before doing this

No , Final Fantasy VII should be left in peace. It's great as it is, no need for remakes.

But probably that would boost sony's fanboy morale up big time.
