You know Motorstorm was bundled right? No wonder it sold 5 million.

Also, tbh, I prefer games like Valkyria and Disgaea on the PS3. As many of you know I'm a HUUUGE RPG fan and those look great. I'm usually up for single player experiences that last me a long time. I don't own games like SSBB and MK Wii because of that. I'm going to buy 3 new games this year...all RPGs. That's why I say I mighf not buy it if I ever owned a PS3. But whatever. It's not like I'm buying a PS3 soon :P

Get a PS3 Soriku.  Valkyria, Versus, FFXIII, Disagaea 3, Eternal Sonata, and the eventual port of Vesperia, alongside all those rad unique titles.  Come on Soriku, join us.

I love how this thread contains:

-PS3 fans hyping LBP
-a non-PS3 fan explaining his reasons for believing the game might not be a huge success
-PS3 fans whining about how everyone else on the forum has a vendetta on their console

Seriously, this kind of pre-emptive self-victimization is the saddest thing ever. It's really imature, and pretty much kills the motivation of anyone else to join the discussion, since they've already been determined to be evil, blood-sucking, baby-eating PS3-haters. -_-

And yes, the game looks very nice, and is definitely my #1 PS3 title. Let's talk about that, and not make excuses for people some people disagreeing.

Warhawk doesn't really have all that much casual appeal.  R&C has some, but not that much, and it's not exactly the top of the heap in terms of platformers.  Also, neither games were advertised near as much as this LBP will be.

LBP, unlike most games, has a great combination of both casual and harcore appeal.  It's easy on the surface, but provides great depth for those who look for it, somewhat like Super Smash Bros., but far more so.  Not to mention, it's looking like it will be a critical success the likes of Bioshock.  Combine these factors with an insane marketing budget (Sony has stated this is their biggest release of the year - even bigger than Resistance 2), and you have the makings of a great success.

There's a certain combination of factors that makes titles like Animal Cross sell so damn well, and I think LBP has all of this, plus even more, as I believe that LBP caters to the hardcore just as much as the casual, while a title like Animal Crossing or the Sims catered more to the latter (not to say that that's a bad thing, as I think the Sims is a great series - haven't played too much Animal Crossing, though).

Fair enough. We will have to see how much advertising ends up happening for the game. Until we see that we can't really ciompare it to the advertising other games have seen. I just feel the need to speak up when people hype it too much. For example, Leo-j is using the sales of a game that was bundled for a great deal of time as an indicator of the sales of LBP.

I agree that we can't really say for certain how it will do, but I'm learning towards the idea that it will do very well, and will only be limited by the ps3's install base...which will continue to grow, over time.

As for bundled titles, this game will probably be bundled at some point as well.  It's the perfect game for it, and you know Sony likes bundling these days.  :P

By the way, there's something underhanded about titling the thread "Doubters please enter" and then attacking anyone who doubts Little Big Planet.

I have no doubt about this game becoming a great experience, but this game as a success based on the sales and user content, yeah, I can´t see it...

There is a complex rating system that will ensure good levels.  Plus I can't wait to play all those detail oriented levels from Japan.  Pure greatness.

Have you ever enter on a site with some levels made by the users???

The amount of fail is inmense, and this game need great support from the comunity in order to achieve the success

I was assuming we'd be talking about the quality of the title, not judging its sales numbers.  If someone said something about hating 2d platformers, I could understand.  Most people don't know much about the game, and just think its just a one dimensional game.  However, that article sums up alot about what the game is.

I want you to do me a favor before you go into a long arguement in this thread. I want you to go read every review you can find for Okami. I want you to look up the sales info on Okami next. Hopefully after that you will realize why some people are saying you shouldn't expect this game to be super huge just yet.

I want you to go do me a favor.  I want you to go find me one commercial of Okami.  Tell me one store that had Okami as a demo.  Find me preorder specials for Okami.  Show me promotional items for Okami.

Oh wait, you can't.

I have seen a thousand and one commercial for Warhawk and Ratchet and Clank as well and lets just glance at the sales numbers for those. A good game does not automatically mean huge sales. Just wait for it to be released and see how it does. Quircky titles are known for being critical smashes but commercial let downs. I don't have anything agains LBP but going over the top and hyping it as the next Mario is just ridiculous right now.

Exactly. I'm glad you weighed in on this b/c I was about to write nearly the same thing except probably not as well you have conveyed it. LBP seems to have the right combination of innovation, gameplay accessibility, charm/character, critical appeal, and huge publisher backing (i.e. huge marketing budget) to become something transcendent.

Personally, I think LBP will be this generation's Halo or Grand Theft Auto or Goldeneye or FFVII. This is that one game that comes along a few times per generation that captures people's imaginations b/c of just how fresh and well-executed the experience is.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

I'd join but my parents won't buy me any new systems :( Certainly not for $400 + $60 game + tax. I can only get like 3 games a year anyway :(

HOLY SHIT.  VG Chartz just exploded.

This may sound like blasphemy, but sell your Wii.  I'll pm you where I can get you a 60gb PS3 for 350 if your seriously interested.  Or, just beg for one for Christmas.
