Probably, but both all of those were before my time. I was simply responding to the OPs title of "Nintendo new to BC" which they obviously are not based on the Game Boy.
Atari came out in 1972... there were PC games before this time... well they were university computers however you could still play games from a previous OS on the upgrades OS that is running on an upgraded PC.
But sure, Atari was first.
Granted only because of semantics those games were ports and not the original game. I hate arguing semantics so you win.
By the way I'm reffering to the early 1970's and late 1960's.
I'm Unamerica and you can too.

@Largedarryl: Haha. I wasn't supposed to target you, but wondering in general. My bad. But MSX2 (which was BC to MSX) was released in 1986.

If they have Wii backwards compatability, then why not just allow the Balance Board to connect via Bluetooth? |
Because Nintendo may have a new system that allows the Wii 2 to support 2 new balance boards at once and will want to make money by selling 20 millions new balance boards to Wii 2 owners :)

Actually, I got into the habit a long time ago of ignoring wiki links. It's like I don't even see them most of the time.
I have to add to the conversation one thing, the first (that i'm sure of and atleast by hardware) backwards compatible PC model was IBM PC/AT in 1984, same year as Atari 7800. Damn, i recalled it was later.

While it use to be one of Sony's biggest selling points, they're actually abandoning BC completely. |
Actually they do still have PS1 compatibility. Yeah, it's not that important anymore but still, it's wrong to say they're abandoning BC completely.
During the classic era, there was compatibility thorugh add-ons.
Atari addressed the issue by making an add on for the 5200 that played 2600 games.
Interestingly, two Atari competitors did the same thing. Both the Colecovision and the Intellivision had add-ons to play Atari 2600 games. (This would be like the Xbox 360 playing PS2 games).
Coleco even went so far as to release an Atari 2600 clone (the Gemini).
