Forums - Microsoft - Buy level ups for Vesperia as DLC? Scamco strikes again

There's a reason why people call the company Scamco Bandai, and that's because Namco's approach to DLC borders on the insulting. Not content to sell incomplete games at retail and charge people for stuff that's already hidden on the disc, the dhampirs have now hit upon an even more outrageous scheme -- charging you cash to download level ups in Tales of Vesperia.

Yes, for a mere 300 MS points, any pitifully lazy gamer can jump up ten levels or "earn" himself 300,000 Gald. Yes, you too can defeat the object of the game thanks to Microsoft's Monopoly money and reveal to Namco how pathetic you truly are. Here's what you can buy for Vesperia:

LV Up +10 (1) 300 Microsoft Points
LV Up +5 (1) 200 Microsoft Points
300,000 Gald (1) 300 Microsoft Points
Skill sets 80 Microsoft Points
HP Recovery Cuisine Recipe Set 100 Microsoft Points

Namco manages to continually astound me with this stuff, and I'm going off the company completely just because I don't know what shady crap it'll pull with each successive game. This kind of thing makes horse armor look almost acceptable, and I really wish Namco would stop abusing DLC and its customers in this manner.

The worst part is, someone will buy it and justify the whole sorry thing.

It's Maplestory all over again.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I don't see why anyone would whine about this. I think it's just funny. I mean, most people won't use it, right? If you're not going to use it, why get mad that others can? It doesn't limit your gaming experience in any way.

It's more comical than insulting. So long as the DLC isn't necessary to fully enjoy the game, I don't really mind. And if a person is lazy and rich enough to just fling around this sort of cash, they would've squandered the money on some other frivolous thing anyways, so what's the loss?

Buy level ups? That's just stupid

Nexon says hi, I blame Maple Story, I believe they were the first to do DLC and be succesful.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Kinda like buying strategy guides for Gears 1 via DLC....lol.

I'm more lenient than others usually when it comes to DLC. It's better IMO than the old days of extra content where they wait 6 months and come out with a "Ninja Gaiden Black" with a few extra options and charge a full game price for. But sometimes like this it just gets funny

Buy level ups! Never!

Oh wait...This is an RPG! Last I checked, every MMO offered you XP for cash, or credits for cash!

I've spent about $100 on level ups for Goal Line Blitz. So it does happen. In ToV's case, I think it's crazy, but......Buying 300k gald for 300 MSP sounds interesting. I guess the question is: can 300k gald even get you anything early in the game, to be relevant?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

This isn't the worst of it. Anybody familiar with Ace Combat 6 knows how bad the DLC for that game is. There are like 40-50 fighters for 200 MS points each, plus there are tons of Mission Packs and multiplayer addons. You could spend over $100 on DLC for less content than you get in the game itself for $60. Namco is shameless.

I know, I love it! I was meaning to pick up the Aces of Ace DLC for Ace Combat 6. I wouldn't be caught dead buying custom planes.
