As a late adopter, I was hoping Nintendo would drop the price soon, but could afford it as it is now, so my family got one. Combined with my DS and my brother's 360, we are now properly in the 7th gen.
Of course not completely in. I have a PS1 and PS2, and plenty of games for both, so I have nothing against the PS3 and the PSP. For the Ps3 I'm waiting until the price goes down (but I understand perfectly well why that will take a while), and in that time, hopefully a few more must have games come out by then. Yet Resistance and R&C will be high up on the list, since Insomniac is one of my favorite developers. As for the PSP, the price is right, but still needs a couple more games, namely the two Star Ocean remakes. I don't want to import them. I want them localized. That's the deal maker or breaker.
Anyway, back to the Wii. Even though I had to pay launch price, I don't mind. I still had the advantage of seeing what games were really worth my money so far. The first Wii game I bought was Metroid Prime 3, especially since MP1 was my first Gamecube purchace. At first, I thought the aiming sucked, until I remembered not to sit too close. I was skeptical of the bounding box when I first heard of it, but this game convinced me.
And then when I got Resident Evil 4 (had the GC and PS2 versions, but at the price of the Wii edition, I figured "what the hell"), and I actually missed the bounding box, but still found I could work with the analog stick for aiming. I just wish you could use the pointer for scope weapons. Suddenly the easiest to aim weapons became the hardest. Really annoying, especially in parts the rifle is the most necessary. Also, the knife took getting used to. Then I figured out I just needed a quick back and forth 45 degree tilt. That is unless I need a specific slash, then I do it manually.
Then my sister got Mario Party 8, as she likes the series, but we only got to play the first three, and only rented the first two. So we have some fun with 8. The conrols seem to work fine for me. I just made sure to use the exact control motions they were showing.
Oh yeah, Wii Sports. Haven't played it that much, but it's still fun. It's not super deep, but it's not meant to be. I still need to figure out the right motions for boxing though.
I also have a couple unopened games. One is Octomania, a puzzle games, since most of my family likes those. The other is No More Heroes. Since unlike Epic, Ubisoft does know core Wii owners exist (despite the words of that moderator, whom some companies would fire for what he did), I don't have a problem with them, and even got my brother Assassin's Creed for his 360.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
