Forums - Sales - A crumbling tower: Sony lays siege to the 360's weak spots

@Zen What the hell is a bridge title. You just invented that correct?

Besides Arstechnica is definitely not pro Sony. In the first year they killed it. And the Wii is completely irrelevant to the article unless you simply want to say something against the Ps3 or 360.

Apart from that you are not wrong

lol, no. A bridge title is a game that is made with the intention of pleasing core and casual gamers alike, and also has the hopeful result of drawing casuals into a more consist and deeper level of videogame playing. In essence, it allows the twain to meet, as it were.

I'm not sure who coined the phrase "bridge title" but I assure you it was not me, though I wish I could take the credit. It is a common phrase uttered on these forums and the most common example is Mario Kart Wii.

As for your other assertions, Arstechnica didn't write this article. A human did. I wouldn't trust a man that didn't steal a little. ;)

I don't need your console war.

You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

Its number should remain fairly absolute.

True but the relative number is the important one. If the 360 has two games in one game category and the PS3 has 1 the advantage is significant. If the 360 has 6 and the PS3 has 5 the advantage is not so big anymore. Especially when those games are older and are not sold as often anymore. But yes the 360 has quite a few titles the PS3 doesn't have.

I agree. One point I forgot to mention about this article is that the commentator brings up the common assumption that the Xbox 360 version of FFXIII will be inferior due to the possibility of an increased amount of discs that must be used.

Fair point.

However, not one that an unbiased source would make, or even assume. It is more than likely knowledge learned as a generally accepted assumption from message boards. People who read message boards regularly pick favorites in the console wars. When men speak on a subject, or women for that matter, who have a great understanding, and a bias for one console, they can often convince others to join their cause, by presenting that cause and their beliefs not as an opinion, but as a fact. Some of us have more sinister motives, than being duped by an excellently worded fanboy. However, nobody that good would leave such outstanding errors of logic in their hard-worked article. No, this man's assumptions are flawed, probably due to an overwhelming and recent Sony revolution on his message board of choice. That's my final deduction.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The facts presented in the article are facts nonetheless. However, they are selective facts and totally being unfair to Xbox 360.

It's also silly to argue over unreleased titles on what and what is better. Those titles could turn out crap and all that.

Facts are always facts, Galaki. If they are proven wrong, then they weren't facts to begin with.

Some problems with the article, but I think the overall idea is spot on.

Some?  I thought it was Microsoft that is laying siege to Sony console dominance this gen.

The only tower I see crumbling this gen is the one Sony used to sit on.  They lost market share to Microsoft and Nintendo this gen.  The GameCube 2 is essentially kicking Sony butts in all territories.

You didn't read the thread title carefuly. Another I think that was a bit out of topic. Thread title doesn't have wii in it...

So what will they write after next NPD, when X360>PS3?

The article contradicts itself a few times, this one is big:

The first Viva Pinata fail to impress, so the second one shouldn't [paraphrasing], but he goes as far to say that Killzone 2 will be awesome.

But he does make a point though, is that microsoft needs to stop striving for parity with the PS3. Instead of being exactly the same as the console, it needs to differentiate itself, which is usually done through Software. But most of MSs software isn't internally developed, meaning generally, it's multi-plat, and doesn't help them.

Internal Development lets Sony and Ninty make their system special to it's owners, while MS system owners only get whatever third-party game was hot a few years ago.

Market share of the HD consoles is decided.

LOL we are at 20/15m Nothing is "decided". The PS2 for example really took of when its price got lower so to say everything is decided is at best wrong.

The PS2 took off at 250, you're right.  But your missing the key piece of info... it took off within 18 months of world wide launch.

What's going to significantly change?  One will end up 35-40 and the other at 30-35 (high estimates), does it really matter which one as far as the industry goes? No it only matters to fanboys.

What matters is that Sony starts making a profit.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Actually its the PS3 striving for parity in a lot of genres. For example - Killzone 2/RFOM 2, would they exist without Microsoft first releasing the Halo and Gears franchises? Furthermore aren't Microsoft using their Lionhead studios to help spearhead their RPG push this year?

Tease.
