You don't think it would be difficult to make Gran Turismo the mascot?

Personally I like the idea, mascots are usually best if they appeal to a wide group of people. This is the reason that most mascots for companies could be perceived as "kiddy"?

I said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think the sackboys have anything kiddy. In fact I don't think they have much appeal to any other demographic than the 12-25 males. They look pretty creepy as their inspiration is most likely Voodoo dolls. So, it's not a good idea for Sony to select them as a mascot because it would be one that pleases their already existing fanbase. They need to find something that kids and older people can like. Right now, it's one of Sony's main problems. The Xbox 360 has propbably a more diversified demographic because of games such as Viva Pinata and Eternal Sonata. Little Big Planet is the game that is supposed to appeal to a larger demographic.

The characters are roughly inspired from a Japanese kid's show. Just so you don't get inspiration confused =)

The problem with Sony choosing mascots is their ability to jump the gun and say, "HERES OUR NEW MARIO!" But wait! What if the game regularly sells only 2-3 million copies per installment? Super Mario is a game that has been synonymous with gaming for the past 20 years. Sony needs to realize that having characters with so much customization ability will be a fad instead of an intellectual connector between the player and the protagonist. Mario has the potential to nearly everytime sell 10 M+ copies just on name value and commercialization alone. LBP is being over sold. People want to understand his new adventures and relate with him, but thats because he's a character all of his own and creators...not yours and YOU want to see what happens next.

I don't think you understand the premise of a 'mascot'.

Mascots are things that get put into other games that aren't at all related. See: Mario Tennis/Kart/Golf, Sonic racing games (Halo wars?). Imagine sony making a Gran Turismo Tennis game, where you play as an anthropomorphic car with a tennis racket. Or even better, a Gran Turismo Kart, where you're a car driving a go-kart shooting green, red, and blue... engine blocks? at people. Don't forget Paper Gran Turismo, where you're a car in a surreal storybook world and the gameplay is traditional JRPG.

This post is so full of hate and pessimism that I have to laugh. Oh console warrior, fight on.  You might trick a few members with the cleverly veiled sensationalism.

Oh and if this game comes local to you, go play it.  I feel like I'm the only member on this board who has.

what i don't understand is this...he is being marketed to little kids yet he is hardcore enough to make sony fans happy?

now if this game was appearing on the wii this would be blasted as super casual and thrown to the dogs by a majority of people proclaiming this as the second coming of Christ.....so confused
