I skipped it on the gamecube.Maybe because I was 11? I dont know...FPS didn't grab my attention back then.

It's not a first person shooter.  It's a first person adventure with shooting elements.

Exactly...It fits more into the category of FPS then action-adventure.

Metroid Prime is not a shooter.  There are more than just shooting in Metroid Prime, there are elements like Morph Ball mazes, platform jumping, and puzzle solving.  And I say these elements are more than 50% of the gameplay experience.

Your first sentence contradicts your second...Take a look yourself.

Once again, I'm going to say that it's a first-person adventure game with shooting elements.  It's kinda like how Zelda is a third-person adventure with RPG elements.  Also I played this game less than 48 hours ago so I doubt I need a gamespot review.

The sentence in bold proves that indeed it is a FPS. Secondly do you recall me saying anything about it just been FPS?Yes your right, I'm wrong including Gamespot.

Yes, you and Gamespot are wrong.  It's not a FPS.  This has been substantiated for years.   Gamespot simply doesn't have a FPA category in their CMS.

By your accounts, Duck Hunt is a FPS.

I don't, but it'd still be stupid. The biggest trouble with the camera would be aiming at enemies all around you; above, behind, left, right, but it works just fine in Zelda games. Puzzles wouldn't be to hard. Jumping/platforming wouldn't be difficult. I think it'd be easy, just no where near as good as first person

If it works for zelda why cant it work with Metroid?

@SmokedHostage
Well they can just change it up a bit for third person. If metroid went third person you shouldnt expect a Prime like experience to begin with.

Zelda and Metroid have vastly different gameplay mechanics. Look at the 2D games of both franchises and you'll see that the games use different perspectives as well (aside from Zelda II).

You could just as easily ask why they don't make 2D Metroids in top down view like the 2D Zelda games. If it works for Zelda, it should work for Metroid too, right? Well, it might work, but would top down Metroid be better than sidescrolling Metroid?

Or you could switch positions: Why don't they make Zelda in first person, after all it worked for Metroid too?

In the end, the games use the perspectives they use because they work the best for their respective gameplay mechanics.

EDIT:

Agree with what youre saying.

Now though with new technology and what not they can try to fix what they probably couldnt do before. That and the team was American. I think if one of the Nintendo teams worked on it the series wouldnt have gone First-Person.

Nothing against Retro Studios!!! Just have to add the little bit

The new technology (Wiimote) actually improves the first person view of Metroid Prime even more. I think the reason why the project was given to Retro Studios in the first place was because they might have had more people familiar with games in the first person perspective, unlike Nintendo's studios in Japan. It was in the series best interest to give it into the hands of the guys at Retros Studios.

I didnt really mean the Wiimote by that. I mean new engines and all that good stuff.

Any game I think can work well in Third-Person. The development team just needs to do it right. Thats basically what Im saying.

Who the F#*$ is Shigero Miyamoto??? :P Well I didnt know that my bad.

Metroid in 3D works better in first person than third person, because I say so. Three awesome games and you get to see the world through the eyes of a woman. What more do you want?

If you want the series to be in third person, you better explain how that would work and be superior to the games in first person.

Uhm..............................................................no.

Youve never even seen Metroid in Third-Person so it can possibly be better. Im not develop games so I cant answer that but I know its possible and Id like to see it in Third-Person.

Usually if you criticize a game for being something you don't like, you should be able to list at least a few points on how to make this game better. So why would Metroid in 3D be better in third person view? Which parts of the gameplay didn't work well in first person and would work better in third person?

Dunno. All I know is that I like Third-Person better so if I can actually see Samus like I do Link or Mario than Id be fine.
The developers can implement her canon morph ball and all that the right way.

I believe that making Prime 3rd person would actually make it MORE like a shooter. You'd just be running around shooting things, except in a more awkward manner. It would more clearly be YOU playing the game, not Samus. Making the game first person allowed a level of immersion and realism that is impossible with third person. You see thing's through Samus' eyes. Water gets on your visor if you walk under a waterfall or look up in rain. You see her eyes reflected it during some explosions. It makes scanning items seem like you actually are scanning them. The game would have been a lot less immersive and overall enjoyable had the game been third person.

Valkyria00, Read my post and you'll understand why it won't work.

MP has too many in your face aspects that would be obscured by the character herself. Scanning, which is a very huge game element, would be awkward in 3rd person.

Not to mention the entire HUD, visor system, aiming system, and again the scanning system all rely on a 1st person perspective.

Going into 3rd person would completely change these elements.

I have a question. Are you saying that if the entire game had been exactly the same with only one difference, and it being that you look over Samus' shoulder instead of through her eyes you'd play it, but in its current state you won't? Because I'm sorry that has to be one of the worst excuses for not playing a game that I have heard.

Shigeru Miyamoto is Nintendo's (and arguably the world's) top game designer. He has created Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox (maybe), and Pikmin. He was the lead designer of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, widely called the best game ever created.

He has recently been the driving force behind some of Nintendo's most successful games, such as Wii Fit, Super Mario Galaxy, and Nintendogs.

I know you didn't say it was JUST a FPS but you can't call it a FPS just because it shares some elements of the genre.

I'm make it simple for you, I'm in the media and when Shiggy and Retro Studios tell me it's a FPA, it's an FPA.

You also might want to check Wikipedia and IGN again.  They call the series a FPA, not FPS.

Yes but thats because youre just used to playing it that way. What if it went Third-Person and did something completly different and made the game just as enjoyable and fun?

Damn.....didnt explaing that too well. OK Im not saying I want Prime to be Third-Person it is what it is and you all love it which is fine.

What I want is Third-Person Metroid. If the First-Person gameplay doesnt work than change it entirely to work for third person. If scanning wont work change it and make something new.

@vald321
No thats not even close to what im saying/
