You have yet to provide any real justification for such stark change in sales trends. Even when Sony had the MGS4 momentum this prediction would have seemed ridiculous. Thats the problem.... so far these price cuts are just rumours and screenshots. What if MS doesn't have a price cut this fall? We've been in this boat before, where everyone thought a price cut was coming for the GTA IV launch and it never happened.

True Gebx, but even without the rumored price cut I don't see this happening. I should have been more clear in my thoughts. What I was basically trying to say is that there an miniscule chance of this happening and the rumored price cuts wipe out that small chance all together.

well so far its three weeks and counting the xbox360 has outsold the ps3 WW. i think the ff13 announcement hurt sony in NA, others more then the ps3 fanboys think. and the 360 is gaining quick in japan in one week it gained two thousand units on the ps3 since the sales of the ps3 dropped a thousand while the 360 gained a thousand. can the ps3 have already saturated the market they are targeting?? and the rest goin to the 360? the next two weeks will tell the tell.

PS3 will reach 30 million consoles in September 2009 and be roughly 1 million consoles in front of the X360. As for the Wii well I do not care. It could be around 60 million install base by September 2009.

I love this another poster that has difficulty counting higher then ten. What fifty weeks try thirty three. Where the hell did you get an additional four months from. You do understand that this sight has readily available charts so you can easily find and use the correct statistics.

Seriously those inflating the number of weeks are not only embarrassing themselves, but they are embarrassing all the community members. How utterly lazy is it to use all these tools at hand to just go find the valid number. Rather then just making shit up. You were not even close which might have been thirty or thirty five.

The only problem with this thread is the assumption.

The PS3 has rarely not consistently had a 3:2 advantage in sales over the Xbox 360. And with the rumored price cut (60G model for USD$300 regular price starting in September), it will be difficult for the USD$400 PS2 to have such an edge in sales.

I feel like doing some math:
Xbox360:
Needs to sell 9.79 million
PS3:
Needs to sell 15.33 million

15.33/9.79=1.56 which means that PS3 needs to consistently outsell 360 by that ratio.
So if 360 sells at 100k then PS3 needs to sell 156k
at 150k then PS3 needs to sell 235k
at 200k then PS3 needs to sell 312K

You be the judge of whether it is possible for PS3 to sell that much and not drive Sony into bankruptcy.
