Meh, I don't care about the sales that much. When it comes to living up to the hype, IMO that means the game is amazing, not the sales. Unless the only thing being hyped up about it is that "it will sell like crazy" theory... then that makes me think that the game will be another Halo3...

I don't know about anti-hype. What exactly is anti-hype. Cause any talk about it bashing or praising ect is still the fact it is being talked about, which is good for the game.


But I just dont' see this selling huge numbers. Its a new Platform game (which do platform games sell huge besides mario). And the main draw to this game is the design your own level and stuff. Which is a super niche thing. You will find a very small number of people who will think this is awesome.

Of course on a video game site like this an others, or a person who makes an account on a video game site is gonna scew your ideas on it seeming bigger than it is. This is where you'll find the more niche people. So I just feel this will be like zac and wiki. ton of websites jizzing over the awesomeness of it and trying to hype it get everyone to buy it ect. yet most people will be like "i don't want a game i have to build the levels myself"

but thats just my opinion. i could be way wrong and it could sell millions like many were wrong thinking wiifit would flop huge.



I don't think the hype is justified, the concept of LBP is nothing new...

Most gamers today in the main demographic (18-26) seem to not like a "kiddie" style, excepting some Nintendo stuff. Sony is pushing it so I'm sure it will sell though.



LBP anti-hype is the work of Microsoft.

Some people seem to think Halo is innovative, but it just brought pc concepts to the console.  Same thing regarding xbox live.

I may have engaged in what some consider "anti-hype."

But my points have been that I don't expect it to be a "system seller" -- cause hundreds of thousands of people or more to suddenly buy PS3 consoles.

I also wonder about some of the sales predictions. Selling 4M on a 16M base means one owner out of four buys it. That is very high for any game and only a few (e.g., GTA IV, Halo series) have been over that purchase-rate. (For comparison, the top non-controller-included Wii games have been bought by less than 23 percent of consoles owners).

The game itself is essentially a platformer with a level editor. But it looks fantastic and appears to be a lot of fun. It should do well. But maybe 2.5-3M well, not 4M well (at least without a lot of legs).

So if trying to be realistic about sales predictions in anti-hype, then I'm as guilty as charged. I guess I just don't see this as a "savior" title some are making it out to be. Hopefully I will be proven wrong because unique new IPs need to be honored.

Without having read most of the posts after the first (they're too damn long) I've never thought it would tank, far from it.

I actually imagine that it would capture about the same % of PS3 userbase as Viva Piniata captured of the XBOX 360's userbase. I mean beyond forum user hype - the rest of the population only have the interest generated by the box art and name to base their purchases on.

Disagree so much. I think that this game appeals to everyone. There are various groups of people interested in this game, whether or not they fall into the "target audience" which you just made up.

Are you kidding? People are hyping Animal Crossing with (gimped) voice chat! I think Nintendo owners would excited if they could get this game on the Wii this holiday.

Gimped?  I think it's better then a headset.

I'm in a very similar position ...

Little Big Planet is one of those games which is in a market position different enough from most games on the PS3 (as well as most games in the industry in general) where there is a very high risk that it won't be able to find a large audience. The best example of this that I can think of at the moment is Katamari Damacy, which was heavily hyped on forums because of how clever and original it looked but didn't (really) see outstanding sales.
