Oh, there was blood. There was lots of blood. I took a pic with my cell phone. If you ever saw the Photo Channel on my Wii, you'd never call it a kiddie console again.

Why do u post them on your Wii?

bigger display. lighting selections. I don't have an SD card reader on my PC.

On topic, I guess having the option of filtering violence sort of lets developers off the hook with the media. All 3 big consoles have parental control settings. Used properly, people like Jack Thompson lose a lot of their ammunition.

@Kergeten: Actually the problem is just the thing you described. Fictional violence doesn't have consequenses (except getting rid of some unwanted guy). Violence filters and censoring sucks. If you ask me, all the violence should be shown with consequenses.

@D21: LMAO.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I blame parents

I think blood messes up the visuals and detracts from them , a little bit of blood gushing is alright but blood everywhere is just pointless to me.

I don't like swearing much I think it demonstrates a lack of literacy skills , articulate people don't need to put a swear word in every sentence they use because they have a range of vocabulary to use instead of cursing.

The germans can buy it in holland or a other country in europe.

I never understood what's the big deal with blood, especially the way Hollywood depicts it. What's truly damaging is seeing dry blood on the face of decapitated child with it's half rotten eyes staring into an endless abyss while wild dogs feed on it's dried up body, it's bones shattered, it's body mangled, it's innocent soul torn asunder, and beside him his family is.... Ok I'm done. The idea is liquid blood is not that big of a deal.

Erm....

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Short version :

Putting such an option makes sense from a business point of view.

Long version :

1. For those who did not read: it's an option, as in optional, or as in "you don't have to activate it if you don't want to". As for the rating, it will have no impact on it, unless some mandatory parental code is implemented (that's not the case as far as I know), and at best it would get the game a 16+ rating instead of a 18+.... So :

2. Congratulation on discovering that Epic put a violence filter in their games. It only took you 10 years. Of course that has everything to do with obscure pressure from hidden parental organisations and unknown governments, and absolutely nothing to do with increasing the game potential audience (without hurting the original one, since it's an option), and as such its sales, and ultimately the profit of the company (Epic is a caritative agency).

3. As for swearing : Forum rules :

"Insults. Attacking other users for any reason is never acceptable. This includes racism and bigotry. Do not insult someone's religion, race, sex, sexuality, nationality, political beliefs, or gaming preferences. Debate is encouraged, but respect the beliefs and opinions of others."

Not having insults is the norm, even on this site (for reasons). Why some people assume it's perfectly normal for everyone, in a game, is beyond me...

4. The majority of the FPS gamers play those games for the -aiming- skills, the strategy aspect (think Counter Strike), or simply because it's simple and fast to learn (aim, fire, hit). Contrary to the thread opener's belief, many of those people simply don't care for the gore or realistic aspect of the game, some being even turned off by it. Epic is trying to compete with 'Call of Duty', 'Halo' or 'Resistance', not 'the Saw IV: the game', and narrowing its audience by not putting such a simple option in its game just does not make sense.

5. Apparently, video games doesn't make people violent. It makes them paranoid.

Violence filters are a joke. lol. Make the game suitable for young kids who should not even be playing this sort of game in the first place. Restrictions should just not allow games over a certain rating from being played on a kid's console.

However kids are smarter than their parents these days and they could easily circumvent these restrictions in place and play the games the way they should be played 'all blood and gore'. Sooner or later the kids are going to be exposed to violence whether it be in real-life in America, on tv or a video game.
