They will fix it. It will probably cost that 149 without the warranty though... [since you said it was a day1 console I assume that the warranty is now dead].

A 60g model will likely eventually die. They might have BC but their failure rate is pretty impressive.
Mine died....but i returned it and got a 40g model free of charge!
High five!

Lol no wonder sony assistance doesn't know what to do because its only happened to 30,000 of there consoles compared to 5-6 million of microsofts |
Thats quite a spiteful, twatty and downright stupid + illogical thing to say!

Yeah great, you've done your bit for cancer... Now how about doing your bit for the environment and buying a wind turbine and running that for 5000-7000 hours. I take it you don't pay the energy bills, kids eh....
They replaced my 60GB after 15 months without a quibble, and to my surprise it only took them 4 days to get me another 60GB. I'd heard it would be quite a wait due to lack of stock/parts but maybe they've got some stockpiled now?
I asked the guy who exchanged it for mine how busy he was with that job... and he told me he dropped of lots every day, and that the two reasons were either the thing freezes (normally not overheating but getting a knock while active) or the laser/BR drive fails.
Good luck anyway... and remember to sound really disappointed on phone, in a kind of 'I heard 360's fail but not PS3's...' sort of way...
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
Well, i called sony while i was at work.......and they're sending me a "re-manufactured" 60gb ps3.....for free. Apparantely, that means that it's still essentially a 60gb ps3, but it has gone through a re-manufacturing process which means it has brand new parts, and has gone through the same testing that a brand new console would go through.
He also pointed out that they don't actually have a repair service for out of warranty systems, and that it would usually cost me £199 to exchange out of warranty systems, but he said that i have been on file since 1998 and haven't made a single claim since my ps1 was registered, so i get a "concession" of some sort and i don't have to pay a penny. i was quite pleased! the courier will arrive with my new ps3 on thursday, and all i have to do is exchange on the door. only problems are that i will lose all my game saves and hdd info, and my soul calibur 4 disc (which is still inside), won't be returned until MY PS3 goes through re-manufacturing), and that could take 3 weeks.
Overall though, i'm really happy with the result, so i should be up and running again by thursday!

You have issues not trying to provoke people...
He just comments on how his own ps3 has done its job and gives an example of how long it has been working, and you just HAD to comment on the power-suckage that the console does.
Imagine this being a Xbox-thread, you'd probably applaud him for doing his bit.
