I'm sorry but this is what I saw on the hot topics page:
Anyways that sucks. Were you playing GTAIV recently? I remember it killing a lot of PS3s...

Ow... Sad to hear that.. Call Sony they'd surely fix that. Payment is unsure though.. Mine hasn't broken down yet.

So, it's a good thing that xbox360 had a huge problem?
thanks guys, i don't mind if i have to pay for the repair i guess, just as long as they return the ps3 that i sent to them. otherwise it's not worth it. i hate the word "refurb".
I don't think Sony has any refurb 60GB models on hand to dole out.
Mine's been through the one of the harshest endurance tests I know of (about six months running non-stop, Folding whenever not being used for media play back or games). Probably anywhere between 5000-7000 hrs of total run time. I can still count the total number of crashes on two hands.
If it ever gives up the ghost, it's already done its job as far as I'm concerned, and I'll probably just replace it with a lower power consumption model and sacrifice PS2 BC, which I have used quite a bit over the past 20 months.
That day will make me a Sad Panda.
Well I had two PS3 break on me, but they were both within a year of purchase and I sent them back to sony and they send a replacement 60GB refurbished launch console both times, though this could be out of guarantee so you may have to pay.
If when you turn it on orange lights flash, that means it has overheated, so they will replace the console for that. Mine would turn on for minutes so I could copy save data off, before freezing again, but if yours cant do that I suppose you will have to ask Sony to send you the data after the fix the system, or maybe you could just remove the HDD and keep that
Trust me! You don't need to send a PS3 to sony to be repaired for overheating, i remember when mine did that i left in untouched for a about 5 days, when i switched it on after that time it had been left off i was amazed to see it start up, it been working fine since then i just make sure it well ventilated now, same goes for RROD when my first 360 did that i sent it in to MS to be repaired they sent me a refurbished one which worked fine at first then that got the dreaded RROD, I left it untouched for about five weeks, to my amazement after five weeks not having my 360 i thought id try it to see what would happen, it started up to my amazement it must have settled down after being off for so long, This is true im not bluffing!
Lies! Lies! Lies!
Sony consoles don't die. And there's PS2 to prov... oh wait... nvm.

You would have thought they had a lot of practice given the 5-10 million PS2s and probably almost as many PS1s broken.
