Well I had two PS3 break on me, but they were both within a year of purchase and I sent them back to sony and they send a replacement 60GB refurbished launch console both times, though this could be out of guarantee so you may have to pay.
If when you turn it on orange lights flash, that means it has overheated, so they will replace the console for that. Mine would turn on for minutes so I could copy save data off, before freezing again, but if yours cant do that I suppose you will have to ask Sony to send you the data after the fix the system, or maybe you could just remove the HDD and keep that
