Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which Console(s) Do You Think Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Knight's Story Go On

*Edit: Oops I guess you meant primary series but I can't understand the logic behind that if they're willing to do ports and remakes of games on just about every platform and also have a multi-platform game in development for the PS3 and 360 and have mentioned that the Unreal 3 engine keeps down costs, that it would be so impossible to believe that they'd make other multi-platform titles. I mean if Capcom is now doing it with their Resident Evil franchise and many many other developers are making multi-platform titles with their major series for the PS3 and 360 why not Square? As for them not breaking traditions, I remember people saying they'd never leave Nintendo's platform (that was right up until the big FF7 shocker was dropped on the public).

Well their remakes are usually to build interest in new systems that they intend to focus development on.  For example they remade a lot of their SNES games into PSone collections when they switched focus to the PSone.  They remade a ton of games for the DS when they shifted primary focus to it as well.  But notice, even their remakes of these games are exclusive for their generation.  The PSP remakes and the DS remakes do not overlap.  You have a point though that at the moment they could be shifting to a time when they are willing to make their primary franchises multi-platform, which would be HORRIBLE news for Sony as I can guaruntee if they do it with Kingdom Hearts, they will do it with FFXIII as well.  Which will literally mean the end of the Playstation 3.  They don't have a tradition of single platform loyalty, but they do have a tradition of single platform exclusivity for their primary game series.  Obviously they aren't single platform loyal.  Anybody can go to wikipedia and search the game release lists and see there are a lot more DS games than PSP games, including major games.

Until the big 3rd party games get announced for the Wii instead of the 360 and PS3 I think people should stop assuming every big game is going to Wii.

What if the publishers are seeing the Wii fanbase as a mix of casuals and Nintendo fans? This means they will put their main effort on casual games for Wii and not try to compete with Nintendo first party for the big games.

Meaning the Wii will have the same problem as previous Nintendo consoles: lack of 3rd party support, only this time it will have 3rd party support in the casual market with games that are quick cash ins, cheaper to make and appeal to the non-gaming demographic.

No one is saying every hardcore game is going to the Wii.  Only the most delusioned would say MGS4, FFXIII, etc. are going to have any Wii version whatsoever.  Obviously the Wii fanbase has some hardcore, Resident Evil 4 sold amazingly well for being a 2 year old game.

On the other hand, if you would actually read the topic instead of assume that everyone is saying it will go to the Wii just because they want it to, you would see that there are a lot of good reasons for it to go to the Wii.  Demographic and user base being the biggest ones.  I never met a single person who bought KH when I was in high school, and I doubt all of the 13-18 year old kids with PS3s and 360s are going to be buying it.  Square Enix seems to be very good at hitting target demographics (for example DQIX on the DS) and I think they are very aware that the demographic that plays Kingdom Hearts is younger and older than the demographic of PS360 owners.  Add to that the fact that the game breaks 1 million in Japan (and it can't sell more than 1 million on either the PS3 or 360 in Japan) and the fact that the Wii is strongest in the 2 markets that KH sold best (America and Japan) and the Wii is the logical choice for a platform.  You don't even have to worry about it sacrificing the graphics, as the art style of the game doesn't require powerful graphics to look good.  The game is such a perfect fit on the Wii it's almost scary.  It seems like it could have been made knowing that the Wii was comming lol.

What does this have to do with this debate? Or are you just going to the usual argument of sales even though no one was even debating that. Who even brought up the issue of which console is selling better?

The thread has been completely derailed by graphics discussions. I was basically insisting people knock it off.

But the sales argument is due to the fact that, last I checked, this is a thread about where KH3 will go and I believe that, due to the Wii's overwhelming sales, it'll be the Wii.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

every console can have kingdom hearts, if you talk about "harcore" games, Zelda for Wii (a "hardcore" game), sell more in Japan than any PS3 or Xbox 360 "hardcore" game, or the Xbox 360 "hardcore" games sell more in USA than any PS3 or Wii hardcore game, if you talk about tradition, kingdom hearts can be a PS3 game, and if you talk about money, Kingdom hearts can be a multiplatform game 360/PS3 or 360/PS3/Wii

So this whole graphics debate was so you can convince people it will look as good on Wii as it would on PS3 and 360? It wouldn't. Not saying it won't look good, just not as good...

What is this BS about PS3 owners all being 13-18 year olds? You think the average teen ager can afford a PS3 at the current price?

Also the assumption that teens don't buy Kingdom Hearts games is not necessarily as true as some people are contending it to be.

Heh, no big games are going to the PS3 and 360 because development on them started more than a year ago.  Developers are now getting terrified of the Wii, and scrambling to shift focus.  Every company except Konami has anounced the Wii is their primary development focus.  Konami has anounced they are working on a new hardcore Wii RPG.

The Wii is the DS ckmlb.  The comparisons are so close it's scary.  The 360 and the PS3 together are the PSP.  Where is the 3rd party support 3 years down the line?  Heh, well I'll let you go count for yourself.  Where was it at first?  Let's just say developers better hope that sales trends change and change fast, as their 3rd party bombed really hard on the PSP, while Nintendo was supported by first party.  2 years later the PSP is all but forgotten from the development standpoint.  It's flooded with ports and remakes and 2 Square Enix games.  Believe me, I have trouble finding anything to buy for my PSP.  The last game I bought was Mega Man Powered Up.  I have 2 Square Enix games to look forward to... and that's it.

If the Wii ends up with the kind of support the DS gets, I'm very happy with my purchase.  If it doesn't, I'll still get the flood of great Nintendo titles the DS got, but I'm really not worried about it at all.

What about the 50 Final Fantasy games on every system under the sun?

GBA, DS, PS1, et all have recieved re-makes of the various old itenerations of their games.

FFXI was on X360 as well as PS2

As for the all KH will be connected - I never said the spin-off wouldn't be connected. Just because they have to be connected doesn't mean they have to be on 1 system. Remember Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories? That wasn't PS2, it was GBA. What prevents SE from doing the same thing and providing the Wii with a more...Wii-Centric KH rather than just goto one system.

Im sorry, Shrek has sold about 6,000 more units on the Wii than the 360, or around 20%. Whereas Pirates sold 60% better (40k units), and Spiderman 3 sold more than 110% better (around 180k units) on the 360. Therefore, the sub-PG13 movies have sold better, on average, on the 360, not the Wii. Of course, there are plenty more to go.

Naz, can you give us a list of every franchise IP that has gone Wii-only so we can compare the feasability of one of SE's largest franchises going to the Wii, with other major like-selling games?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I think the last thing Nintendo would want is even more games going multiplaform because the Wii version of the games would stand out like a sore thumb even if the games were built from the ground up with each console in mind.
