"So, I propose having a clock on the front page that shows the time based on the time zone where VGC's main server is located. That way, everyone would see the same time. There would be lots of benefits:"

why don't you just get your vgc time from looking at the latest forum post?

lol, funny how the conversation ended there...

It didn't--I had just logged off for the day.

You could do that, but wouldn't it just be more convenient to have it staring you right in da face?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Is the VGC time UK time? I am pretty sure it is, and that is currently BST = GMT + 1 so you can work it out from there

Guitar Hero 3/ Smash Hits

Sounds like a good ideal.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

Kind of off topic, but how (or can you) change the time zone for the forum?

It'd be nice if the post times in threads showed the correct time based on the user's GMT setting...

I get what kitchensink is saying but I think it may cause more confusion.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Use UTC. Because it's a) standard, b) British in origin, and c) I don't have to mentally adjust, but all of you Americans do.

I second that, Words Of Wisdom. It would be great if post times showed up in accordance with a time zone we could define in our user profiles.

How about a date/time tool on the Rich Text Reply page that lets you insert a date/time in your local time, stores it as UTC time, and displays it as a date/time in the user's local time zone? For instance, I could enter the following:

I will start my OMF 2097 IPX server at 1:00 AM on Friday the 15th of August, 2008. Who wants to be the lucky guy/gal to play me?

The red/yellow box would be an atomically selectable object with a toolbar button or something to allow us to edit/choose times. Then, that text would be stored on the server as:

I will start my OMF 2097 IPX server at 1218726000. Who wants to be the lucky guy/gal to play me?

That's 3:00 PM on Thursday the 14th of August, 2008 GMT as a number of seconds since midnight 1/1/1970. It's GMT, so Soleron would be happy. And for example, citizens of Chicago would see this in my post:

I will start my OMF 2097 IPX server at 10:00 AM on Thursday the 14th of August, 2008. Who wants to be the lucky guy/gal to play me?

Also, VGC time feels like reinventing the wheel. Specifically, the Internet ticks wheel. We could use ticks and make everyone/noöne happy at the same time.

Edit: seconds, not milliseconds.

i don't think it sounds like a principle we should all strive for, or something absolutely perfect, but it is a good idea!
