A Grand Theft Auto game was also recently announced for the Nintendo DS: GTA Chinatown Wars, due out this December.

That leaves the Wii as the only games platform currently on sale without a GTA game either on sale or in the works. Officially, at least — we find it hard to believe that Rockstar is not scheming to bring the world’s biggest gaming franchise to the most coveted console on the planet.

I doubt it because it would get a ton of controversy. Probably more than the previous GTA games did

I'm quite curious about this. GTAIV was estimated or rumored to cost rougly $100 million to make so what would a Wii version cost? Certainly, it will not be anywhere near that level but a ground-up GTA for the Wii should at least run in the low tens of millions. Is Take-Two willing to risk that much money on the Wii? Of course, they could be reusing various components from the other GTA games.

But yeah, with Chinatown Wars announced for the DS at E3 this year, anything is possible for future relations with Nintendo and Rockstar.

I don't think it will announce until after or just before November GTA4 PC release or GTA Chinatown Wars release.

Porting GTA3 engine on the Wii and improving it a bit and creating a game from the ground-up with that would be a great idea. For 25 million dollars, they could do it and sell about 4-5 million copies of the game. And it won't make that much controversy. The controversy with the GTA games are becoming less frequent. When GTA4 came out, a lot of media outlet were talking about how "controversial" the series is and how it's over-blown.
