Forums - Sales Discussion - MGS4 shipped 3.94m as of June 30, 2008

wow so by this logic of shipped not sold that could mean Halo 3 or COD4 figures could be X2 or maybe even 3 what they are?

Was in PC World earlier and they had a whole wall full of MGS4's and i mean a whole wall full, that means those are counted as shipped? No wonder Konami's last financial results were bad if they ship out more copies then are actually wanted!

No it doesn't.  That's just your logic for some odd reason.

This site has always been heavily biased against MGS. They have both MGS1 and MGS2 undertracked by millions when every official source states otherwise.

Enlighten us all with these 'official' sources and their figures please.

Official konami statement: http://www.contactmusic.com/new/home.nsf/webpages/metalgearsolid3x21x05x03

Both the Metal Gear Solid 2 documentary and MGS blu ray documentary state official numbers to be 7 million for MGS2 and 6 million for MGS1.

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/29/metal-gear-solid-4-producer-says-game-needs-to-sell-a-million-co/

MGS more than 6.6 million http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/metalgearsolid2sonsol/news.html?sid=2847978

And dont start with shipped vs sold, these games are so old that there aren`t 2 million extra unsold copies lying around stores. This site is just biased against Metal Gear.

It seems everyone ignores the obvious agenda this site has against MGS.

Like I said earlier... MGS4 £29.98 at amazon UK - methinks they have some stock they need to shift. Who takes the hit on that price I wonder? Amazon or Konami?

Interestingly Burnout Paradise is only at a £10 discount on the same site.

@ DTG those posts do not contain any official statements saying what you said they did. They contain commentary saying something similar to what you said.

The first was a Konami statement. The fact that the official documentarties state 7 million makes it pretty...official.

You realize they ship however many copies retailers  want, and Konami has already been paid for all those.

I think we've known for awhile that the old MGS numbers are incomplete. But that's true of a lot of old games. Nothing older than a few years has been directly tracked, so if a game shipped an extra million in legs beyond what was officially reported in an earnings statement, it may not be up to date. No reason to assume there's anything malicious about it, DTG.

As for MGS4, as others have said, it's easy for retaillers to order too much for the launch of a big game. They'll just hold back on reorders. If VGC remains significantly off from reported shipments later in the life of the game, I'm sure they'll adjust towards shipments.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

MGS4 should be at 3mil, because those shipped numbers are 1 and abit months old.

MGS should be at 6.6 Mil
MGS2 should be over 7 Mil

They have the 360 £15 less than RRP, every PS360 game £10 less at least and the PS3 is £10 less, so they do cut prices. However, in this case you may be right, as game have also cut the price, though none of those deals were avaliable in June

EDIT: PS360 prices the other way round

Agreed. There aren't any conspiracies going on. If VGChartz(ioi) doesn't get real data they can't just look at those documentaries and then plunk 6m and 7m onto the MGS and MGS2 pages. That said there should be some way to know when a game lacks sales data. Or they could cite external sources of sales data in a citition section similar to wikipedia.

You have to relax man. Why would a specific site have an agenda against 1 game? What would be the benefit. Are you a conspiracy theorist by any chance?

Just kiss the tip.
