Forums - Sales - What will Microsoft do about there gaming disk's in the future?

Well obviously for the next generation of video games if Microsoft is still in it, they more then likely will have to abandon the DVD's and move on to something bigger and better.

So do you think Sony well actually let them use Blu-Ray (Microsoft would have to pay Sony some serious cash)

Or do you think that Microosft well make an attempt at making another new disk

or maybe they might just buy another type of disk like the HVD (holographic versatile disk) they claim that this disk can hold up to 3.9 Terabytes of information (that's 3900 GB!) so that should be plenty of space for a video game. But it's extremely expensive right now but could be alot cheaper in the future.

Or something else any ideas?

Edit: damn wrong Forum

Have been wondering about that myself. I think for the rest of this generation, they'll keep up with this talking point about digital distribution rather than awarding +1 to Sony for Blu-Ray. Next gen, however, I expect a Blu-Ray Xbox. Assuming, of course, there is a neXtbox.

Edit: But Blu-Ray is not to Sony as Windows is to Microsoft, yo.

Sony couldn't stop them using Blu-Ray even if they wanted to.

A new media format with a player that can play disks with virtually unlimited storage capacity. That would be amazing.

Blu-Ray is the standard for HD movies. It should be cheap by the time the next consoles launch. It will most likely be standard in all next-gen consoles. If MS wants their console to the the multimedia center for the living room, it must have blu-ray.

You will see a lot more content sold online for download next gen. I see no reason why you could not buy a 20GB game online and install it on the 500GB+ hard drive in your console. Games will be getting bigger. 100GB+? If you want to own a physical media, it will be blu-ray.

Sony doesn't have to 'let' them do anything. They would buy it from the Blu-Ray Disc Association, just like any other company that wants to use a BR would.

Yeah, I could see them doing it with the NextBox, unless they come up with their own disc, like Nintendo has done with Gamecube and Wii.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

They may use HD-DVD or Blu-Ray in the next generation... Blu-Ray could be supported for movies, but not necessarily for games.

HD-DVD???  Seriously,  why would then ever do that?

Please dont use discs. I'm sick of this old technology. It's about time someone mass produced 30 gb + Sd cards. I would much rather DS sized boxes and no need for any drives in the console could save money in producing it.

A download only console would make a lot more money, because there is no second hand game market. Publishers would make money on every sales, since there are no used games.
