These numbers are actually pretty good for Sony, I mean the freakin' PS3 is 1000 dollars down there. Selling that many of a 1000 dollar machine is not that easy... even I would have problems with buying a 1000 dollar PS3

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Yeah, the numbers aren't bad for Sony, but people are trying to skew them and say it's beating the Wii and 360...or whatever.

I don't care if finalsquall's a newbie. If you're going to come in here telling us numbers and information that is obviously false, and not listen to what we have to say...of course things are going to get heated.

Listen to what we have to say...being wrong about something doesn't make you stupid...but blindly following your own obviously wrong idea without reading any criticism is stupid.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Also as the artical says. Harvey Norman ( major multi-store) is selling ps3 as blue ray players.

Folks, could it be that since stores like Harvey Norman are selling the PS3 as a blu-ray player (not as a game system) then the gtf numbers are correct and ioi's are off because he's not tracking those type of stores?

Irregardless, if the PS3 is successing on the basis of Blu-ray sales, then it's highly questionable if that's actually a success story for Sony.  They lose money on every system sold and blu-ray sales will only dilute the game sales.  What's the value of being the top selling system with the lowest attach rate?

Well, it seems Australians like to watch BR movies...

what I don't understand is ioi own data suggests that wii has easily been outselling PS3 most weeks down here. except for the launch week and the month after.

Wow those australians sure love their PS3 .

I think there may be some doubts but that it is clearly stated that the PS3 has sold more units weekly that both the Wii and the X360 since march 23 .Until last week when the Wii outsold it .The PS3 numbers are very similar to the numbers in this site ,the difference would be that Wii and X360 numbers would be somewhat off in the others department ,specially in the Wii case .

Sure PR spins things sometimes but GFk data will appear sooner or later .Taking notice of this kind of things improve this site info and reliability not the contrary .

It is a success for Sony overall, however. As long as they get the money from somewhere, they are successful. They get to win the format war, and make tons of money off of BR movie sales.

Yes, .01% of movie buyers choose Blu-ray. The other 99.99% still chose DVD.

Why would they change the numbers if the numbers MATCH what sony said in their Press Release? Wii at 100,000 (more like 103,000) since deember and PS# at 50,000 (More like 47,000). Those numbers are within the acceptable range of what sony said themselves (and Nintendo too).

About the weekly thing... This is for the sony fanboys... a little class of math.

If you sold 21k on launch week, 6k on second week, 4k on week 3, 3k on week 4, and 2k on week five (just a little over the 2k nintendo sold that same week) to a total of 37.5k on 5 weeks (my early numbers add to 36k but im weighting the "hundreds" I had rounded down on them) this is an impressive number for australia. but now, we only have 10k for the remaining 9 weeks to get to 47k (the number on this site that is very similar to sony's own). Those 9 weeks PS3 has not only been outsold by nintendo but in most cases by double the sales (Wii sold 20K in those same nine weeks).

Not only that, but they are fighting neck to neck with x360 with some weeks with the x360 selling better.

So, if they said that in a week by week sales they were the best selling console, they were lying. thats wuite simple, because the last nine weeks were not very good for soy in astralia, given that they had a strong launch with 37k in the first 5 weeks. (not as strong as nintendo's or xbox's if you align launches in the charts, thay follow a really similar sales pattern with the wii just overcoming xbox this last week) I guess the xbox is selling to the levels of PS3 in australia due to saturation of the market.

funny you mention Harvey norman. Nintendo Australia does not do business with them anymore. I think its a result of last gen when they were very quick in ceasing to stock Gamecubes and software and hardware. That section very rapidly became a PS2 section.
