Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.
stof said: Well said OriGin! As for the numbers themselves, I'm suprised by the neck and neck sales of the 360 and Wii. So what is the case in Australia, is the 360 selling better there? or is the Wii selling worse?
As a Kiwi I would say its because Australia is the 51st state of America. Partly because I enjoy antagonising Aussies and partly because at the current moment in time Australia is trying very hard to become firm friends with America. Australias buying trends I think you will find in general follow those of America.

Sadly thats true. The new zealand PM has bigger balls than ours, but the wallabies will kick ass tonoght... or not...
What the hell? I'm from Australia, and absolutely no-one here gives a damn about the PS3, Wii has been trampling the cometition here, I know 5 people with a Wii, 2 with a 360, and none with a PS3.
I know the local game store owners well and even they said Wii's are flying off the shelves, the only time PS3 outsold the Wii was on it's Launch day.

ioi said: Haha, this is PR at it's finest. What they are saying is that last week Wii sales since the PS3 launched overtook PS3 sales since launch. Like Happy Squirrel said selling 30k week one then dropping is always going to give you a head start over selling 4k a week every week. PS3 sales weekly haven't been larger than Wii (trust me) but total sales since March 23rd or whatever have until last week. Nice spin Sony!
Ahh, clever - so "cumulative sales" since the PS3 launch of the PS3 have exceeded sales of the Wii/360 ;) Nice stat that one.
The problem is this: now that the Wii has now sold more Wii's since the PS3 launch, than PS3s sold - this gap will continue to grow indefinitely ;)
They should have released that spin (oops, I mean 'press release') a couple of weeks earlier.
I agree that the PS3 has very little momentum here at the moment. Its still WAY too expensive for the average person, even disregarding the "free game" offer out at the moment.
Gesta Non Verba
Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:
Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099
Based on Sony and Nintendo numbers (50k PS3 sold, 100k Wii sold), it's mathematically impossible that the PS3 outsells the Wii weekly.
OriGin said: I think it's pretty neck and neck in AUS between 360 and Wii, that's the feeling I get, I think Wii could be doing much better than it is here, it got off to a roaring start but it feels like it has slowed lately, however some recent advertising has been pretty good so I'd say it should pick up from here on out for the rest of the year.
this is mainly due to games being released late here. Xbox360 has ALOT of good game out atm so it will sell wel. WIi will pick up when they ship more consoles and more games quicker.
example we still dont have paper mario or elebits (elebe or whatever they calling it here)

Well, I'm An Aussie and I know one person with a 360 and more ppl with a ps3. So go figure! I do know more ppl wanting a ps3 when it gets cheaper or certain games come ie mgs, gt5 ect...
Nah pretty sure noone cares for PS3 over here, heck Wii's even all over Channel 10, every second add is about Nintendo, It's even all over Big Brother.

I only know of one person who owns a PS3 in Australia, and it was a friend's brother's friend (no joke).. so i guess that means i don't *know* anyone who owns a PS3 here
Sony did own gaming completely here in Australia during PS2 days (and still sort of does), and PS3 seems to be 'riding' (if you could call it that) on that success
