Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix, has recently said that his company remains neutral to both publishers and console manufactures, in comments that came in light of the recent news of Final Fantasy XIII's appearance on Xbox 360.

You know, it amazes me how, even though Nintendo is running away with the lead, there are still many elements in the industry who act as though the Wii doesn't exist.

1. if they really cared about reaching the majority of their customers they would release ff13 on the wii. And believe me a major company like square enix has no difficulties porting games to the ps3 or make a stripped down version to the wii. If they want to reach many customers release the game on pc.

 

2.Star ocean 4 is quite big in japan and would sell alot more on the ps3 than the 360 this is a fact. There is no reasons whatsoever that star ocean 4 should remain Exclusive judging from their "neutrality"In fact all the games would sell better on the ps3 in japan.

 

3. If star ocean 4 and the other games becomes timed exclusive for the 360 in all regions then why dont they release ff13 earlier on the ps3? It will be finished before the 360 version after all....

 

The answer is of course simple. MS paid them money, theres nothing else to it.

 

 

 

 

 

Infinite Undiscovery will not appear on the PS3 as it is owned by Microsoft, Star Ocean 4 however will appear on the PS3 because it will sell awful on the X360 . MS still own the IP rights but i don't think they will own them for long after the *first* Infinite Undiscovery is released because S-E will want to do their own thing with it, like release a 2nd.

On an off topic but kinda on topic thing, who else feels that since the start of 2008 all that has happened in the game industry is companies stabbing each other in the back mainly over things to do with Microsoft and to a lesser extent Sony?

I'm guessing you misread that. The Square rep is saying that they're neutral to all publishers and manufacturers, not that they're still in denial about Wii raping both HD consoles at the same time. At least that's what I think.

Seeing that North America is still the single largest video game market in the world, it's somewhat understandable. And yes, multiplat releases always have the potential for greater profits - but this is where corporate policies, publisher deals and other commitments/politics come in.

Besides, Square could just make its games for the Wii/DS first and then port them to the other consoles if they wanted to make the most money.

At the same time they will be working on "porting" the game on 360. So by the time the translation and voice-overs are over, FFXIII will be already running on 360.

1. yes, just yes. There are alot of people with a wii that would buy ff13, in fact the 6 first series was on a nintendo console. The wii audience is much better suited for ff than the 360 audience if we were to take a look at lost odyssey and blue dragon sales. They dont have to add anything and making a wii port would be cheap.  THey should release more games on the wii as its cheaper and the wii has a higher user base. If they want more consumers go with the wii. But pc would be the best

3. Yes it will release in japan first and thats probably due to the fact that sony owns 8-9% of the company. There will be delay due to the 360 version regardless of what people might say. When they finished the ff13 jap. version they will begin the english + other versions, but they have to re-do the lip sync or else it would look bad. And then they would have to fit that into the 360 port and  then they'll begin the compressing of audio and such. And that i think would lead to a delay.

Doubt that, they can (most likely) reuse almost all models, textures, artwork for the 360 because PS3 and 360 are roughly in the same power category. They would have to completely redesign everything for the Wii though because simply downsampling everything will look like hell. It would be like making a completely new game. (And yes this is cheaper for the Wii than for the PS3 or 360 but I am willing to bet that a port to 360 is cheaper than a port to Wii)

I think the difference between EU and NA are so small in terms of market size, that there is no reason to ignore EU.
