It's more the propogation of that "stoic men who don't listen" crap. But I mean seriously? Sony wants to send the message that their customers have girlfriends but are bored by them? Considering Sony's recent shortcomings, I'd say this era of in-your-face, doesn't-have-to-be-about-the-product advertising is coming to a close.
If I could get some of JohnLucas' vibe up in here, he'd probably say that sacrificing half of the potential market for a smaller chunk of an established market is foolish and "red-ocean" and all that. Sony would have been wiser to choose gender neutral advertising, that way they avoid pissing off women who hate being stereotyped like that (most of them) and the men who are the boyfriends of those women who hate being stereotyped like that (all of them).
It also sorta paints a bad image of potential PS2 customers too. I mean, given the choice between "being with pretty girlfriend who has big breasts" or "playing a PS2", you (unless gay) would probably chose the former.
Oh yeah and that girl in the ad looks to be maybe 8 years of age. I wonder what ELSE Sony is sending with this message...

No, but he does have this useless PS3 Camera thing that is $100 that will be used with, maybe just that, considering the Yu-Gi-Oh fans it appeals to don't have that much money for virtual trading card games or would have already spent $600 on a PS3, and I doubt the Fist-pumping Wicked-Awesome MGS4-FFXIII crowd who DID spend $600 on PS3 will be going for what is essentially bump-mapped Pokemon. But if this is what Sony wants to waste their money on, they can go ahead.
remember that ad was in india where basically females have no power at all.
besides, it is pretty funny.
Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!
It may only be in India, but PR should be smart enough to realize we live in a global communications market. You can't be stupid and think your ads are only going to be seen in one market. That's the type of thinking that has led to many marketing snafus.
While I don't think the ad itself is horrible, it certainly makes it seem that Sony has no unified message it wants to send. Without any focus, you have local marketing lackeys making stuff up with no regards to global image.
Deguello: My PS3 owning friend also happens to own about $3,000 worth of CCG's. He has a problem. Well, several of them. I'm sure he'll be getting an eyetoy.
See Ya George.

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.
Wii-mote obviously has no future in traditional gaming but the PS-Eye, now there is the obvious next step in game evolution. Lol.
Dude...the PS2's biggest potential market is teenage boys...I think the ad would be funny for that group.
It does alienate others...but Sony didn't really care about them as much...they didn't reel in much money.
Sometimes it's ok to be a little incorrect. Maybe for a mass marketing campaign it's not the right time, but I don't care...it's ok to laugh at stuff that's a little edgy sometimes.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
Like I said, one ad by itself isn't horrible. But it's the accumulation of these types of ads that are stacking up for Sony. We have the goat party, annoying guy on plane, creepy person in bathroom, racially toned ads, etc.
From a marketing perspective, I just don't see how these things are expanding their market or building brand loyalty. It's not that these things bother me, I just don't see them being very effective at increasing sales.

I know you were banned but I'd love to comment this one. The PS Eye has a huge chance to succeed over the EyeToy did due to the fact it has Eye of Judgment which is a CCG (or is it TCG?) and they are huge among the Japanese and many people around the world that enjoy simple games.
The way I see why Nintendo developed the WiiMote was because they saw Sony's motion sensing accessory, the EyeToy, and decided to take that concept and place it into their controller. Sony is basically taking their older EyeToy tech and greatly improving it with their CyberShot camera tech with their audio tech (theres 4 mics) to create the PS Eye.
With the PS Eye being released with the ability to bring creatures in a CCG to life means theres a ton of anime and card game fans that are going to go ape for the PS3 and PS Eye.
