Forums - Sales - Sega, Capcom, Bandai, Namco all to shift focus to Wii/DS

Nothing we didnt already know was going to happen EA and others have already done it too, but its news so what the hell right?

Taken from GAF:

According to this Japanese nikkei article Sega, Namco-Bandai and Capcom are shifting their focus from PS3/PSP to DS/Wii (capcom's focus was the PS3) due to low sales

Game software major company such as バンダイナムコゲームス and Sega, relative importance of software development the SONY computer entertainment (for SCE) from is moving to Nintendo Co.. As for バンダイナムコ and Sega for Nintendo Co. which is sold in 2007 the quantity of software planning redoubling at preceding year ratio. As for SCE squeezing to the large-sized work which can anticipate hit, it advances development. As for number of shipments 3 of major companies which add カプコン for Nintendo Co. for SCE it is the prospect that it is reversed. The Nintendo Co. portable type game machine "ニンテンドー DS" and deferred type "Wii (ウィー)" vis-a-vis favorable demand, high functional machine "place t Shaun 3 of SCE (PS3)" it has been restrained. Software each company seeing the spread of the Nintendo Co. game machine, throwing the new work rapidly. On the one hand, high efficiency for PS3 of the merchandise as for the software is a tendency where production expense expands, cannot avoid becoming prudent.

Doesn't surprise me. At about this point these companies are likely starting to allocate budgets and greenlight development for games we will be seeing at the end of 2008 and start of 2009. Sales definitely have an effect on where their future time is spent. But its really eye opening to see that so many of them were betting so heavily on PS3. That $599 didn't waver them at ALL. They were behind Sony all the way. Good for PS3 I suppose as its to late to take away Tekken RE5 and Soul Calibur now.

Sega and Namco don't surprise me, though I figured Capcom would remain a sturdy developer for all consoles. I'm sure it'll produce a few still, but it sounds like much more attention will be going to Nintendo now.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Its already been happening. Don't fear PS3/360 fans, this just means less titles on your console of choice - but with more effort, and less "risk" (i.e. guaranteed smash hits).

As I mentioned in another thread, the last Japanese developer to switch seems to be Konami. Once they go, the transition will be complete.

Japanese developers will fully change if they want to get decent sales in Japan. We will still see some western style games go multiplatform on 360/ps3 i'm sure.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I think everything is coming into focus. As one console does well developemtn flocks to it. This is whats happening now.

Who says their change in focus will change where most of their titles go? The Wii is the best place for these companies to test out new software. There are new markets that are accessible via the Wii.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Konami and Sony have so god damned much invested in eachother that they can't afford to turn on Sony... YET. Sony is making an MGS Movie and Konami is making a 30 million dollar MGS4 game for Sony. Konami wants to shift focus they just can't do it yet.

I think it's quite obvious we are gonna have A LOT of Nintendo games coming at this E3. This shift is really gonna start to show at 2008 E3. That is if Sony or Microsoft haven't picked up by then. This is their last year where they can make a turnaround. Everyone is shifting focus now but they still have to finish up all of the Microsoft and Sony games that they had bet on earlier. After that Nintendo is gonna have a massive section of the developers making games. One massive E3 that is completely dominated by Nintendo games would be enough to push things over the cliff. Something tells me we aren't gonna be there quite yet but we are coming closer.

I´m really looking forward to E3. I want to know how many games companies are developing for Nintendo.

And I want to see if there are really just some spin-offs or if some companies were just holding back till E3.

Your chance, Nintendo!

I can't see the developers not making games for both the PS3 and PSP, they may not develop as many.

Capcom for example, why would they stop developing for the PSP? They've sold 1.2m copies of MHP2 in Japan alone for the PSP

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Change of focus but what kind of games will be coming to each console?

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
