Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo And Its E3 Fans: A Failure To Communicate

I think when you really get down brass tax the hard core gamers want Nintendo to acknowledge them a bit more. In the house of Nintendo casuals are the new born baby and mommy and daddy have to pay more attention to them for various reasons. Hardcore gamers feel like the older child, who once had ALL the attention but now feel like their second banana. But really they care.

In all seriousness if their making a wario platform game AND pikmin 3 do you think they really have giving up on the hardcore? I mean for Christs sake both the pikmin game sold less then three million combined, The last console wario game wasn't exactly a wallet buster either. Yet their making them, and I'm pretty sure it isn't for the casuals. You see the part where the whole "Nintendo has given up on the core gamers to coin out the casuals." argument fails is that we still but the core game's and they still sell like hot cakes.

But I think a lot of Fanboy moaning could of been avoided if they balanced E3 a little better. If they showcased Wario and just told us that Pikmin was being made on the stage they could of probably saved us a lot of grief. Plus the girl talking about her wrist was just awkward, casual or not. And the them half butchering the mario theme cracked my glasses (which is saying a lot because I am interested in the wiimusic concept, but seriously thats not a good way to sell a product.). Still, animal crossing did look vastly improved, Having 1:1 motion is always a good oppertunity, and hell who's not amped to finally have sword fighting on the wii.

So I think Failure to communicate is a good way to put it.  But if fans really think its the end let them sell their wii's, I'll be here waiting patently when all the good titles come out.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

Honestly I think the Nintendo press conference did more harm then good I said it before, and I will say it again. You cannot market to a casual audience with a televised games conference. They would have done a far better job showing these casual games on Good Morning America. A fundamental rule of advertising is proper placement.

I honestly do not believe that Nintendo was oblivious to the effect of what they were doing. Basically they did the same thing that the other two manufacturers did. Which was a twisted game of do the bare minimum. They all used the show for low echelon announcements. Saving their better material for the true game conventions later in the year. Right now E3 is so unimportant that developers are actually deciding to stay home, and save the money. Most of what the Manufacturers did was for forms sake.

The only thing I begrudge Nintendo for is not having a single silver bullet in their conference. Both Microsoft and Sony managed to have one silver bullet. Then again Microsoft probably felt very honor bound to have the best showing at E3 being an American company, and E3 having once been the premier American gaming event. I suspect Nintendo will feel the same way about the Tokyo Gaming Show, and perhaps Microsoft will feel the opposite way.

I say on the scale of things this grievance like E3 itself will quickly fade from the public eye especially since it will be rectified in a month.

I also think that the complaining is going to be short lived.

My opinion is that the gaming media is giviing more importance than what it deserved. They talk like Nintendo were treating gamers like idiots but that's not the case.

I think that people should really move over. There will be a new mario zelda whatever soon so what's the problem?

Sony's conference was really bad too. Why nobody is whining about it?

Many things that hardcore gamer ever wanted nintendo to do has been shown in E3'08

Need Voice chat? WiiSpeak.
Better control?(Many games review ever said about that before) Motion-Plus.

Which both of these accessories can upgrade communication and accuracy in gameplay as we want for long time(Since Red steel got so bad control maybe :p)

But things that make someone unhappy because they didn't see any core games in E3'08(They wasn't counted Animal Crossing as a core game i think).

But i gotta accept if many hardcore gamer misunderstand about what Ninty try to show'em ,its must be Nintendo fault in trying to make them understand too.So after a while Nintendo answer this question by told us that E3 wasn't a place to show core game anymore(i can't remember who said this, Miyamoto maybe?)

Very sensible article. There was very little to object to. On the other hand Nintendo stated that they were using E3 for casuals since it was getting the most attention by the mainstream casual media. They will use less publicized conferences for their hardcore audience. I find it hard to believe this is all Nintendo (first party) has for the holiday season.

One thing which Nintendo's E3 has made very clear to me:

Avid gaming fans would much rather be teased about an upcoming game for 18 to 24 months and suffer the delays and anticipation than be left in the dark until 3 months before release. Some might say otherwise, but for many, the ignorance of what might be coming from Nintendo breeds fear that it might not be something they like, which in turn leads to nerd rage meltdowns.

These people look around every day for new trailers, developer interviews, and screenshots. When they don't get that slow trickle of information, they start to wonder if Nintendo really loves them anymore.

To be honest I thought Microsoft's conferance was a bigger support to Nintendo then Nintendo's own conferance. All this talk about how Live's custom Avatars are going to change the way games are played, how casual games are the future and so fourth. It seemed Microsoft was solidifying Nintendo's position far better then Nintendo themselves.

I was pretty dissapointed in Nintendo's lack of Pikmin3 or the rumoured Donkey Kong and Kid Icarus! However I think Nintendo relieved me when iwata said Nintendo EAD (Kyoto + Tokyo) were working on hardcore games. My bet is EAD Tokyo is making Pikmin3 and I'm not to sure what EAD Kyoto is making (probubly the new Zelda).

Fact is E3 was great but not mind blowing. Thats just the way it is. We always expect E3 to blow our minds but to be honest Microsoft and Sony never really showed to much new content this year either. Nintendo showed us stuff we hadn't seen before and we are complaining.

Sure I would love to see the new Zelda, Pikmin , Donkey Kong games just as much as the next person but I'll settle for Animal Crossing. What I am concerned about is the void of no new First Party titles for this fall. Only Animal Crossing with WiiMusic and WiiSportsResort both coming next spring. Where's the 3-5 solid titles for this holiday season? Will I be playing my 360 this holiday season rather then my Wii (A first time). I have always bought Nintendo first party titles in the fall but this year won't if I don't see some new good games announced!

E3 is virtually the only gaming event that gets covered by the mainstream press in the US.  There were articles in the New York Times about it (definitely on the website, not sure about print).  This is a great opportunity to get word out to the casual fan.

The core fan is watching for announcments 24/7 anyway.  Why waste time at E3, on this group?

I agree that this complaining will be short lived.  As soon as Nintendo announces their next core game, all will be forgiven.  I wouldn't be surprised if it was in time for the holidays either.

Although I'm in that minority that minority that doesn't mind waiting until 3 months before release before I hear something.
