One thing which Nintendo's E3 has made very clear to me:
Avid gaming fans would much rather be teased about an upcoming game for 18 to 24 months and suffer the delays and anticipation than be left in the dark until 3 months before release. Some might say otherwise, but for many, the ignorance of what might be coming from Nintendo breeds fear that it might not be something they like, which in turn leads to nerd rage meltdowns.
These people look around every day for new trailers, developer interviews, and screenshots. When they don't get that slow trickle of information, they start to wonder if Nintendo really loves them anymore.
