Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo And Its E3 Fans: A Failure To Communicate

Funny thing is that if Nintendo had come out with a bunch of heavy-hitters, it would have been lambasted for not leaving anything to the third parties.

And I still feel that many of the "games in development" that Nintendo mentioned will arrive at market at the same time as the games that Sony and Microsoft provided trailers for.

An argument I would accept is "Nintendo hasn't offered any NEW IPs this Gen".

However... look back at Nintendo's library... they've already offered one game for most of their most valued IPs. And there's pretty strong hints that more games are coming (Kid Ic, Fzero, more Mario/Zelda/Pik/Poke/Etc)... and they've release info about more Wiisportsie/musicie stuff as well as Animal Crossing (which I hate but lots enjoy... stupid DS game that I own... gr..) How can they be dissed, really? First party stuff for Nintendo has, in the past 10 or so months, already hit a several home runs. They've received 'breaks' before. Can't they get a couple months reprieve now? As far as I'm concerned it should be third parties who are to blame for the lack of "new" stuff for Wii.

C'mon guys. Lots of us have it, already. We like it. Give us some stuff that isn't SOOOOOO niche, thanks.

(or just announce DQ10 for Wii and I won't care about anything else, thanks)

Also... doesn't anyone else from the 80s remember just how much CRAP was released on the NES?  AND the SNES??

People conveniently forget the specifics of anything which makes their arguments not hold up. This is more or less the basis of many of society's most cherished institutions, in fact. So yes, I'm sure many of them do begrudgingly remember that this is nothing new, but they're all quite happy to act like they don't or make excuses as to why it shouldn't be this way.

It really is largely just a group of over-zealous and overly vocal people raising a stink here, and if anything, they're being terribly hypocritical in the process. I mean, really, a lot of them have game collections that would rival the entire library of the SNES. It's not like they have nothing to play at all. A few games that don't interest them aren't going to somehow devalue what they already have and what they're going to get in the future.

1. I don't believe that many people even know sean malstrom or his articles

true, but they behave like they do  ( lol ). I garantee you that if they read his articles, they will become their "bible"

2. Even if they did that would mean gaming ended with Wiifit

wrong, Wiifit is just another strong step. Hardcore gaming ending with Wiifit is just total nonsense, I agree on that. The fanboy's concept of end will be total gaming domination under Nintendo.

3. Your wrong =.=
3.1 - It's that nintendomination needs to please the hardcore for it to work.

On the contrary, what Nintendo fans need is the virtue of being PATIENT. core titles take time. I rather wait for a an awesome game to have many games that are a bit above meh. Miyamoto is far more strict about quality on a Zelda title than Wii sports.

3.2 - If anything it's just hardcore gamers yelling at themselves and speaking for the core gamers as usual.

Hardcore Nintendo Fanboys talking for the fanboys to be exact. Forgive me but they were the same fanboys that hated Nintendo's DS and the Nintendog's Idea that are now kissing their feet after the DS becomes the handheld king. I see them more as hypocrites than fans. A fan is PATIENT.

4. It would of been nice if Reggie didn't lead people on though (this is why your wrong as his february statement was foundation.) He said software not hardware, even I was expecting something outside of AC as they did say it was an unknown title, granted AC and Wiimusic were unannouced they were hell of known.

Reggie said E3, NOT specifically Nintendo's conference. Wario land was announced shortly before but was at the event. And Wii Sports Resort too will be a blast to play (having a swordfight while drunk will be awesome lol).

5. The correct answer is where the heck is the 3rd party support. >.> I'm looking at the line up and I don't see anything outside of a few here or there that would fit into hardcore - so I'd figure they have a right to complain. Al though it seems a few of their games will see there way in 2009, but that's almost 8 months away till stuff like The Conduit and so on... I'm not sure if Star Wars counts as hardcore though... maybe if they added a gun... jedi's are kind of space marines.

Is not Nintendo's fault that most western developers/publishers are lazy or not talented. The complain to Nintendo abiut HD output and hardrive when actually they should have aimed at the developers for not putting the effort (the Conduit proved that a good looking game with reat controls IS possible).

Besides, you should remember a similar pattern with the NES. most third party support for core gaming is comming from Japan (Arc Rise Fantasia, MAdWorld, Tales of Symphonia 2, next Tales game, Rune Factory Frontier, Monster Hunter 3, Dead Rising Wii, Tenchu 4, Fragile, Fatal Frame 4, Rygar, 428, Ikim...whatever (lol), Soul Hunter, Crystal Bearers..... phew!).

I think TGS has more chances to show more third party support than E4All.

First off, welcome to the forums. Judging from this post, it looks like you'll be a pleasant addition.

I share much of your attitude, especially since I lived through the Great Drought of N64. Nintendo's been flooding the Wii with games since its inception, releasing more games for it than any other publisher has released for any system during the same time period. And yes, those games have included a ton of heavy hitters, including its top-tier games.

That said, I do have a bit of sympathy for the whiners. Not because I think they're correct, but because they're consumers who just want more more more. Receiving this deluge has simply whetted their apetites and expectations. And a small, unreasonable part of me agrees (I wanted my Pikmin 3). If our demands could spur Nintendo to greater heights, then it behooves us to demand.

Of course, they won't, so we needn't bother, but I still understand the sentiment, even if I don't share it. My point, if I have any, is to not be so harsh on those wanting more, so long as they don't start retconning history or engaging in hysterics.

Thanks for the welcome!

"That said, I do have a bit of sympathy for the whiners."

I guess I could have mentioned that as well...  For some of the whining... I TOTALLY agree.  I wish they had been all "MarioGalaxy2ZeldaWiiKidIcarusABillionCoolThingsWooYeah" too.  A "New Super Mario World" for Wii would have filled me with Joy.  However... if you really look at what has been great about Nintendo for the past several years... as mentioned they flooded us with it already.  It's not unreasonable to expect they might need a few months to wow us again.  Seriously... Galaxy was AMAZING stuff.  And if people disagree just look at Nintendo first party game ratings versus the other two... Nintendo rates pretty well in that aspect.

Which is why my attention and derison falls to third parties.  We've been good with first party stuff for awhile - and party stuff which is very fun too- but seriously.  Nintendo has proven their stuff with the Wii.  PLEASE step in and fill in the gaps.  Hopefully that message is getting accross.

I feel you. I'm actually pretty optimistic on this front, to be honest. True, third-party efforts for the Wii aren't on par with those of the HD consoles yet, but it's improved radically since the Wii's release. I can actually name several third party titles I'm looking forward to, and it appears that Japan, EA and Activision are all starting to really take the console seriously (exclusive games and non-gimped HD ports for starters).

I've always thought the Wii would follow the DS when it came to development: the first two years would be shovelware or cheap cash-ins, as the system's success was initially completely unforeseen and developers were unsure how to wrap their heads around the unorthodox control scheme. After that, the quality games start rolling in. I'd add a year to that cycle for the Wii, due to the much longer development time requirements, but so far my prediction (hope?) seems to be bearing out. Hopefully then, we'll finally be reaping the fruits next year.

noname2200...  I agree.  Geez, even when the DS came out I was all "Seriously, Nintendo?  SERIOUSLY?"  And now I love and cradle my DS.  I think it's reasonable that it might take a couple years for goo 3rd party stuff to hit.

I mean... can anyone really complain after Gamecube?  Surely we've seen pretty amazing stuff in a year and a half compared to Gamecube's life.

I think Nintendo is intentionaly holding back to let 3rd parties in and when that happens we will see Nintendo come out with their aces too. That´s why we saw their biggest IP´s come out in a short while so the core is busy while 3rd parties get going and Nintendo is wheeling in the new and casuals.

I do agree with most of what you said (and hello)

My reasoning for the lackluster E3 was really more on that nothing else was ready after the megatom that was all their big hitters in a small time frame.

If you look at what the three giants have said :miyamoto, Iwata and Reggie, it all makes sence why nothing happened

  • Miyamoto-E3 is more casual. They could have talked about Wario Land and Rythem Heaven, but it would have been out of place in the grand scheme. As Patcher said on GameTrailers about Sony's press confwerence, that they did too much and didn't do any of it well. Nintendo stuck to one idea and did it wonderfully
  • Reggie-We aren't showing games months in advance. Back in June or so, Nintendo for the first time, Wario Land Shake, Rythem Heaven, and other titles like Band Brothers DX. They also gave the release dates for numerous titles. Nintendo's E3 press conference only showed games in the near future. Wii Sports Resort is dated for the spring, but it was shown probably for the buisness reasons.
  • Iwata-Nothing is ready yet. Core games take a while. As I said, numerous bomb shells were released in a short time frame. Now, there is a drought becuase new games are being developed and nothing is coming out. Esentully, E3 is lack luster becuase Nintendo doesn't have any games ready yet. Thus the emphises on the fact they are making Mario and Zelda games.

Take all of these into account and you see why there is nothing. Nintendo is now manking titles like they always have, but they aren't showing their full hand for games that are even done as they are waiting closer to launch. So we only see 08. Also, E3 is casual, so the games that are core were not the focus, and pushed to the side.
