PS1 sold 100m in the 80m SNES/GC era. Big whoop. Europe was far more viable in the PS1 era, and it's economy was able to support more systems. Unless China/India are huge players in 3 years, and they only buy Wiis, there is no way Nintendo is going to sell what you claim.

They call it forecasting conservatively. And that's a Nintendo forté. 20 million will be sold by 12-31-07 AT LEAST.

80 million? SNES sold just under 50 million. GC sold under 25 million.

5 million in 7 months? Hmmm...front page says currently "8.61 million" Wiis worldwide. Months starting from November 19, 2006: December 19 [1], January 19 [2], February 19 [3], March 19 [4], April 19 [5], May 19 [6], June 19 [7].

With roughly double the people. Net income doesn't tell you anything if you don't factor in population.

The first "big player" in the EU is the UK at #11. Germany, Italy, and France are #19-21.

The US is #4 while Canada sits at #9.

johnlucas is far too optimistic, but Nintendo will likely pass their 14 Million shipped Wii system (fiscal 2008) by quite a wide margin; this number works out (per month) to be roughly the number of systems Nintendo is currently selling worldwide outside of the holiday season without any major game releases. Nintendo will (likely) increase production by 250,000 to 500,000 systems per month in July/August and will update their year end projections in the September mid-year report.

According to the WW figures on this site, DS is actually around 10M beyond PS2 at the same point in its life.

Although I will admit that the PS2 launched in EU and NA almost 1 year after Japan, whereas DS launch in NA and Japan in Nov-Dec 2004 and in EU in March 2005.

EDIT: It would be really cool to have PS2 (and other previous gen consoles) Other Region sales added to the Hardware Comparison Charts. It makes it really hard to compare this gen to last World wide.
