Forums - Sony - Little Big Planet allows users to charge for created content

What's a better incentive to create a level in LittleBigPlanet than good, hard cold cash?

According to recent comments by David Reeves, president of SCEE, that's what's planned for the upcoming community-driven platformer.

"What we're trying to do with LittleBigPlanet is almost iTunes meets eBay in the sense that once an individual or a developer has qualified by producing certain levels or certain add-ons, they will then be able in the future to exchange these and make money out of them," Reeves notes. "Eventually, it's feasible that you might well see the first LittleBigPlanet millionaire!"

well little big planet can make you a millionair.

that's a very good incentive to excite users to create content/levels,,,,but,they way it's done is more important,,,,meaning for example if a level gets 4/5 stars or up ,the creator could charge 50 cents or so for that level(apearently they want to keep it under a dollar for a level per download)

what do you guys think???

As long as they keep the number of people that can do this to the tip top level makers who make level upon level then I'm all for it.

And I'm afraid this was posted already, thx much though.

Cool. Basically pricing for mods. Fair enough.

Already1 thread from yesterday

Overall, it is quite bad.

Better level may rise in price.

I dont want to pay ...

Time to Work !

Around the Network

I assume most people will give them away for free. If I do come up with something incredible, I may have to charge for it, but that is unlikely

I could see having some form of in-game currency and creating an economy around this (something I think GH4 might do but I doubt the economy will be stable) but real money I'm not really sold on honestly...but thats not to say it won't work.

Some things I am wondering is what % will be going back to MM and what kind of pricing are we talking about?

If the very best designers are the only ones allowed to charge, the prices are kept very reasonable, and they are still given the option to keep their content free at their choice then I think it can work. But if the majority of worthwhile content costs money and its a forced thing so MM can make more cash from it I could easily see this hurting the game.

Honestly I'm not a big fan of DLC in general to begin with much less paid DLC, but when we start creeping into the community paid DLC I really just don't like the direction things are headed.

I really hope people can choose to keep their stuff free, I think most folks want the free and open market of creativity so if its an option I think the vast majority of content will be free anyways.

To Each Man, Responsibility

@Sqrl -- since user's need to create free levels and content which is well received by the community and then be selected by SONY to be given the option to charge a small fee for large amounts of content i see this as a good incentive for creative players to generate good, fun levels.

I wonder what will happen when someone re-creates a level that costs money and puts it out for free.

Generally though, I don't think this is a good idea, and could ruin one of my favorite aspects of this game. I liked the fact that this could basically be an unlimited game with the ability to always go download new levels, but I don't like that now there is a good chance that the best UC will cost money.

Exactly my thoughts, and even so, users know that people wont pay big money for maps, so if you have a really good map, you can price it at 25 cent and have made a 100 bucks after 400 downloads, I see that as a very good option for the mapmakers
