Total Final Fantasy games on DS: 6

Total Final Fantasy games on PsP: 6

Total Final Fantasy games on Wii: 2

Total Final Fantasy games on X360: 6

Total Final Fantasy games this generation: 20

Compared to:

Total Mario games on DS: 8

Total Mario games on Wii: 7

Total Mario games this generation: 15

Conclusion (if we use your way of determining): for this generation, Final Fantasy is worse than Mario

This is just another sad attempt, by yet another Nintendo fanboy that walked away from Nintendo and can't handle the Wii's current success. This article is nothing but a sad reminder of some of the people out their playing games that call themselves hardcore game players.

Its time to grow up and enjoy all types of games, core or not.

Nintendo = Innovation = Wii

Gran Turismo and MGS have been on every console released by Sony.

Mario and Zelda have been on every console released by Nintendo.

Nintendo has just been around for longer.

End discussion.

Metal Gear Solid isn't even a Sony game.

@alfredofroylan2

Those Um Jammer Lammy sales don't include America and Others. However they did indeed release another PaRapper game on the PS2 and PSP. Unfortunantly sales don't seem to be up for parapper 2. They have made other rhythm games, just not with the same Franchise. Sony milk things, just perhaps not to the same extent that Nintendo whore out Mario.

Is Loco Roco considered a hardcore game now?

Don't know about hardcore, but I consider it beyond awesome. Reminds me a lot of the orginal Super Mario Bros with the hundreads of hidden areas and hidden areas within hidden areas. Just awesome old school 2D platforming. Not trying to derail the thread, but don't dump on Loco Roco just because Sony Fanboys just like the champion it for no reason other than to champion it.

If you want, dump on Patapon instead. A game with one poorly executed original idea and a unique artstyle, and then a ton of horrible RPG elements and a lousy storyline that basically ends with "Buy Patapon 2!". =P

People that call TP and SMG and MP3 core games are delusional, They are the EASIEST in their respective 3D franachises! They have been casualized! They are no longer truly hardcore games.

By the same misguided logic, MGS4 isn't core since it's the easiest 3D Metal Gear game.

MGS1: Had almost nothing in the way of crutches and started you with a tiny health bar and no equipment.

MGS2: Bosses pretty much entered rape mode on Extreme.

MGS3: Easier than the last two due to eating anything that moves, but being stealthly in big outdoor areas was tricky espeically when combined with Camo you had to constantly adjust and a lack of reliable radar.

MGS4: Easiest MGS game yet. About 15 mins in you'll have auto-camo that makes you almost invisble, (upgraded to invisible after the first Boss), a radar eye patch, and an invinicble/invisible remote controlled robot. (you can't kill it, I've tried) You also have Drebin which basically gives you infinite ammo if you don't suck at getting DP as well even more weapons, better shooter controls that let you plow through the game, and you can recover health, buy simply lying down or holding still. Even the Big Boss rank is easier since you can use as many saves as you want now.

I couldn't post it either, funny is that I included Randy's reply in my response, not knowing he's bardiverce. Pretty funny.

I have to disagree with you here.

First of all, your whole article can be proven wrong with a single game: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Nintendo's most hardcore franchise (arguably the most hardcore current gen game on any system) but yet Nintendo decides to make this game. Why would they make this game? I'm pretty sure it didn't sell over half a million copies worldwide, so even tough it's probably profitable it does take away valuable recources (especially manpower) from developing the casual money-makers. The obvious answer is that Nintendo likes its fans. Even a relatively small fanbase like Fire Emblem is catered with a great game.

Also your repeated mentioning of fanboys makes your article very hard to take serious. It's like you're saying that everyone that still insist that the Wii is a great system for the core gamer is somehow delusional and can't be taken serious. That while the Game of the Year 2007 is on Wii. That while the biggest revolution in videogaming since 3D gaming is on Wii. That while the ultimate version of the best game of last generation, a very mature one as well, is on Wii. If anything a real hardcore gamer needs at least a Wii next to one of the HD systems to get the complete gaming experience.

Finally I'd like to comment on Randy Wilson, who points to something that's hardly mentioned, yet very much significant. Without the Wii it is quite possible that the whole industry would have imploded. GTAIV costed an insane $100 million. Sure that's profitable for a franchise like GTA, and maybe a few others, but the incredible rise in development costs basically leads to an environment in which only the EA's and Ubisofts of this world can develop games anymore. Also because the standard is set by these games. The typical HD gamer won't accept anything with sub-par graphics anymore. This does lead to amazing game experiences like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gears of War, but also to a unification of the games that are released.

And think about this: Konami probably would have earned more money if they put their development budget for Metal Gear Solid 4 on the bank. This is Konami's biggest franchise, which releases only once every 3-4 years. If that's not capable of bringing in big money, the industry is doomed. Please take a look at some annual figures of publishers and developers. Despite videogame sales are at an all time high, the average company presents losses.

Now Wii is heading to a 50% marketshare there's room to develop games like Trauma Center and Little King's Story. And that's very good for the videogame industry in general.
Sure, cinematic games are a very important step in videogaming as well and will continue to attract the gamers that like that style of gaming, but without the Wii it's quite reasonable that all you would have played in the coming years is these kind of games. And that all the small developers would have been out of business or bought by a major.

I bet the author locked the comments after I handed him and every other challenger's ass to them. =) Funny thing about us bards, we're designed to use words as weapons. I just like to whip out the BFG every now and then. =D

Its true, what you said, about Konami banking the money for a bigger profit than making the game. Its ironic that way. I'm not sure what the point is to have such a huge budget for a game, because it doesn't follow any form of business logic in regards to ROI.

Damn, now you know my name. Next you'll be crashing my keg parties ;)

Maybe the guy that wrote the article should just get over the fact that people still are into Nintendo.

@ the article.

Yawn. Let me guess, it's a fad too.

Nintendo's been creating more new IPs than anybody, with the Wii series (Sports/Play/Fit/Music), Brain Age series, Nintendogs series, Elektroplankton, and the whole Bit Generations series of games for GBA (Orbital, Sound Voyager, etc.).

I would consider Loco Roco to be a hardcore game considering that it is too difficult for many casual gamers. I think you missed the point of the article, Nintendo's new IPs are almost all casual. Now-a-days all Nintendo provides for core gamers are sequels, sequels and more sequels when this wasn't the case the last console generation.
