Forums - Sony Discussion - Killzone hype/expectations explained.

Having an enormous team and a large budget does not a good game make. You can throw developers and money at a game all you want but if the game isn't good, then it's just not good. I don't know if Killzone 2 is going to be good or not, I really don't care, but just had to clear that up.

Nobody is saying that, but of course the investments are being made, so there are people who feel confident this is going to be a hit. I was just criticizing people making 100% certain predictions.

It's an enormous effort, IMO people should give the game a chance. I have my personal reasons why I'm totally excited about this game.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

this game has definitely been hyped up... i was just looking at this poll.. on another site.. and it listed a bunch of ps3 games... out of all the games killzone got almost 50 percent of the votes of games they wanna see.. so thats hype at its best right there....

"Well that's what some reviews state, complain to them. Personally I haven't played Killzone, but some reviews stated the game developers may have been a little too ambitious."

Many of the same reviews said the game was too linear and repititous. Last time I checked, those things weren't due to hardware constraints.

"I don't think the Halo series is that great, I rather see a Half-Life series killer."

And it'd be great for PS3 to have a really strong, unique FPS with excellent online.

That being said, do you have any reason to beleive that this will be the case beyond a bunch of hypotheticals. For example, can you name anything unique/interesting the devs are doing with regards to gameplay.

Yes, people should offer this game the benefit of the dout, but there is no reason to be so hyped about it.

Killzone 2 is gonna be a "Halo 3 Killer". Seriously, the first game was like totally a Halo Killer because it was made by Sony. And since the prerendered trailer was impressive then it's gonna destroy Halo 3. Even if it was all a lie to make you believe that it was real gameplay.

Sarcasm over.

Gears of War is very linear and lacking much varierty...

Gamespot regarding Killzone PS3, GDC tech demo:

"visuals are looking sharp, and the vast scale of the outdoor areas is impressive"

IGN regaring Killzone (PS2):

"Now even though playing Killzone is to be bombarded by bugs and glitches and technological inadequacies, the whole experience is definitely worth playing. Before you purchase it expecting Halo to spontaneously combust, just remember the profound words of our ratings guide and its 7.0 descriptor, "Killzone is a good game that has some obvious flaws."

Rating 7.5

Regarding Killzone Liberation (PSP):

"It seems wherever Liberation can go the extra mile, it does. It delivers on all fronts, from a thoroughly engrossing single-player campaign to an addictive multiplayer component. Liberation also shames most other PSP offerings through its presentation, which blends excellent visuals and sound with a clean and user-friendly interface. It has a few quirks, but in the end, they seem almost negligible. Definitely recommended to fans of the action genre, but also to anyone who dislikes bad games."

From the looks of the Halo 3 beta, it's really not going to take much to beat it. :)

I'd say it will sell well though, If 'Resistance: Fall of Man' is approaching 1 and a half million, this too will probably cruise by the million mark. A very large portion of PS3 gamers appear to have their eyes on this.

I'd also imagine it will have an aggressive advertising campaign and a huge marketing budget much like the first game.

I'm hoping for a very solid and beautiful FPS, with a strong online component, to add to my library.

Thanks for answering the second part of my question. Then again, maybe your response was what some people said about a tech demo, cause, you know, a tech demo really shows off a game well. Speaking of which, did you hear how amazing the Doom 3 techdemo was? I totally didn't see any cheap AI!

Until you decide to address that in some meaningful mannar, I'll leave you with this;

EGM Killzone Liberation review - 57 "Running from cover to cover, you'll need to master the art of popping out at just the right time to blow away the enemy. Unfortunately, Liberation seems unsure what to do with it, falling into a repeating loop of key hunts, escort missions, and increasingly impossible battles. Bummer."

Yahoo Games Killzone Liberation review - 70 "Killzone isn't able to fulfill its own potential in the end. More variety in the gameplay would make this the killer app it's ready to become."

Gamespot Killzone review - 69 "There's still some fun to be found here, but ultimately Killzone is a barely adequate game that probably won't hold your attention for very long."

Yeah, reviews for these two games all say the same thing, right?

killzone 2 will suck a lot.
it will be the worst game ever.
it will be the death of PS3.
people will stop buying ps3 and begin buying x360.
people will be glad to buy new x360 every year(after x360 die), because ps3 is dead.
people will be glad to pay over 100$(why not, pay more for nextgen) for live! per year, because ps3 is dead.
x360 will deliver pc graphics of 2007 year even in 2009, and people will be glad.
people will buy new x720 in 2010 and pay another 800$, because sony won`t make new consoles.
the gaming will be perfect, because ps3 will die!

muahahaha. =)))

wat if...

Halo3 will suck alot

it will be the worst game ever.

It will be the death of the 360

people will stop buying 360 and begin buying ps3

etc....

Killzone isnt the ps3's huge game any who, but halo is much bigger and if it sucks even a lil bit 360 owners will get mad and buy ps3's. Halo 3 beta didnt seem to enjoyable any way I liked resistance multiplayer better it was more fun.

@ sieanr

I said some reviews stated that Killzone's main problem were technically related. I just provided you some evidence which isn't debunked by your quotes in any manner.

Note that the team for Killzone PS3 is about 4-5 times the size of Killzone Liberation for the PSP, a lot of manyears of work is being invested in this title, IMO if you are a true gaming fan the least you can do is give the game a chance.

For example I recently bought Ape Escape 3 (PS2 game) for my PS3, IMO it's easily the best game in the series.
