Forums - Sales - If all consoles were priced what they are now....

The other thread got me thinking.... Which console is currently the best value for it's price? Which one do you think gives you the most value for the money you have spend to get it? Because the PS360 have multiple SKUs, I'll clarify:

Nintendo Wii: US$249

Microsoft Xbox 360 (20GB): $299

Sony PlayStation 3 (80GB w/BC): $499

Which of the above gives you the most bang for your buck?

I think the PS3 by a whisker mainly because of the BD player. What do you think?

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

PS3 = first. X360 = second. Wii = last I played one of them and could not stand it.

ATM, the X360 gives the most value. Later, it'll probably be the PS3.

Aren't there sales numbers on the front page of this site to answer the very question you ask?  I don't think this needs to be debated at all.

I use a console to play games, not to watch video. So for me the best value console, is well priced and have a decent games library. What I believe to be the best value is as follows:

1. Nintendo Wii

2. Sony PS2 or Xbox 360 (tough choice, I will call it a tie)

3. Sony PS3

PS I have not included a PC (but that would have been my 3rd choice pushing the PS3 to 4th place)

no. I'm saying, for what you get. (tech, games, features) which is the best value. Not which is the most accessible. That's what the numbers on the homepage will tell you.

I'm with RolStoppable on this one ...

Value and cost are two entirely seperate concepts, and just because the hardware that makes up a system is more expensive doesn't mean that that hardware is more valueable to the consumer; if you simply consider that the majority of households still do not have a single HDTV, and even those that have HDTVs may not use a console on their HDTV, the added processing power and movie formats that take advantage of HDTVs are meaningless to these people.

The sales really tell you which system is the best value for the money ...

Accessibility is part of value. The abilitty to enjoy the games coming out on a video game console is a part of the value of the system. The numbers on the front page tell you everything you want to know.

If cost were a consideration, I could just ten tons of diodes and capacitors for 1,000 dollars, when they're technically worth 1,500 dollars.

Unless you could literally take those diodes and capacitors and resell them, why would you buy my random bundle of diodes and capacitors? Hmm? It's such a great deal!

Honestly, I think the "cost of production is lower than actual retail price" concept is the male equivalent of a sale. When women see 100 dollar dresses on sale for 80 dollars, they seem to think they're saving 20 dollars, when in reality they're still spending 80.
