Forums - Sony - How are you feeling about Killzone 2?

Well the E3 publicity did what it was supposed to with me. I was a little indifferent beforehand about Killzone 2, but now I'm really looking forward to it. It's ticking all the right boxes gameplay-wise while boasting extremely impressive visuals.

My only concern is that it's releasing four months after Resistance 2. The first Resistance had such good online play that I was still playing it everyday by the end of last summer, along with many thousands of others. Since R2 looks to have even better online I could easily see myself still playing it solidly by February, and I won't want to buy another FPS for some time. Right now I don't want to defer buying it, but I'll probably have to.

Don you think its rather odd that Killzone got pushed to feb in favour of resistance 2...and not the other way around?

R2 was set to come out in November since forever, Sony also owns GG and can do what they want with their game, Sony does not own Insomniac.

Yes it is a bit, at least from the point of view that it will apparently be finished first. My tentative guess would be that Resistance is now something of an established franchise among the PS3 userbase and that they therefore have more confidence that it will become a Christmas blockbuster.

But who knows what kind of politics go on between Sony's various first and second party developers.

My theory is that they don't want killzon2 vs Gears of war 2 head on match up.

Well I don't really see why that would be. Both games being exclusive to different consoles they aren't really competing for the same sales. They are of course competing for people still deciding which console to buy, but in that case surely Killzone 2 is a more obvious choice than Resistance 2 because visuals are a major aspect when it comes to 20 second TV adverts.

I'm looking forward to it. It's pushing the PS3 hardware, and visually it looks just phenomenal at this stage.

I sincerely hope they manage to pull it off, and the game turns out to be an excellent shooter.

This title will make or break the devs in a lot of gamers eyes.

Its one of the reasons why I still feel like I need a PS3 after the FFXIII thingie.

Tease.

The graphics and animations look spectacular but I still have no reason to believe the game is going to be anything beyond generic and done too many times before.

So you just assume that it is going to be average. Hands on impressions have been positive, and Sony had put a lot into the this title, and they will not let it go out if it is rubbish. Having played Killzone Liberation, I do trust Guerilla to make a great game, and I definitely think that they will come out trumps here

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/890/890247p1.html, touche! (also the MP looks good)

If you look at many of their complaints (frame rate, fiddly controls) are symptons of the launch being more than half a year away

Another major complaint was the AI, well this could be an issue, but if you look here, it seems as though it is a solveable issue. (That link only goes to N4G, because the link from there is not great)

So there is still plenty of hope left

I don't understand why so many people are expecting Killzone 2 to be some spectacular game just because everyone got excited from some pre-rendered trailer they showed when they announced it. The original game was medicore and yes I have played it and I thought it was awful.

It makes no sense to me that some people say its going to be one of the best games this generation when you've never even played it and just have some trailers to go off of.

Read the IGN preview, linked in my last post. Anyway, we have seen gameplay footage of the game, and it looks amazing. Considering the amount of money sony has behind this and spectacular cock-up that KZ turned in to (though I did enjoy it!) Sony will ensure it is good, and several other studios have been helping them with it

It will be amazing.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I'll probably pick it up at some point. Although, if the game has online/splitscreen/LAN co-op, I'll probably be much more inclined to pick it up closer to release.

The game looks great so far. It looks very visceral like COD4 was. I mean, seriously, what made COD4 so great? What innovations did it have? People keep clamoring for innovation, but I say fuck that. Just give me a fun game. If it turns out to be innovative, great. If not, then I don't care as long as the game is fun. I just hope that Killzone 2 does a better job hiding the respawning enemies than COD4 did.

Quoted for truth.

KZ2 is looking superb graphically, however, the jury is still out on gamplay until it is in my hands. I'm looking forward to it with high hopes.

You are judging the game based on that idiot, he does nothing but bitch and compare the game to halo, and makes up shit that is not true.  This is a review of his first 3 paragraphs.

"I asked myself this as I slogged through an early level in Killzone 2"  He already sounds pissed at the game.

"PlayStation 2 wanted its "Spartan" and the original Killzone was called to task, failing miserably"  Calling the first killzone a failure, it has an average of over 70%, the game also sold atleast 2.4mil copies.  He is also trying to bring Killzone and Sony down with his Spartan comment.

"we wonder if a true "Halo killer" stands before us."  Halo Killer??  of course he brings that up, he loves Halo and thinks the world of it.  Just trying to bring up media bullshit and make himself sound stupid.

"The E3 2008 demo begins with a beach landing (what else?) "  WTF kinda comment is that.  Bitching about the game and he still has not even played the game for a second.

"Where Halo offers relief"  Why is he talking about Halo again.

"It was difficult to judge Killzone 2's gameplay. It was rough,"  What was rough? He does not say, we have all seen the game being played and i don't ever remember seeing anything that looks rough.

"The framerate wasn't there"  WTF is he talking about, in no other preview they ever mention a Framerate problem, i have also watched hours of gameplay and have seen no slowdown.  The game runs at a perfect 30FPS at native 720p, 4xQAA, with real time ray tracing.

"I felt slow and clumsy, constantly fiddling with the control schemes and axis sensitivities."  Maybe if this guy did not suck, he could play the game, just today i watched a 6min gameplay video and the game was smooth and the player had zero problems what so ever.  I bet he was trying to play the game like halo, jumping around and tossing greandes while going in for the melee kill.

"The cover mechanic, mapped to the "crouch" command, worked and didn't (e.g., it was frustrating that I couldn't pop up out of cover and use the zoomed weapon view)."  You can do this, this has been seen in many videos dating back to the e307 video's.  Here is a recent video where this feature is being used  At about 2:30 the player is using lean and peek and goes into his zoomed view shoots some guy then drops back down behind cover using the lean and peek ability.  http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34157.html?type=wmv
