Forums - Nintendo - 1UP preview: The Conduit

This thread went down the crapper fast...

I'm still mildly suspicious of this game, but it's been getting better in my eyes. Here's hoping it gets released in less than a year in Europe.

Is it just me or does all the new topics all related to this game have like 75% of the posts from PS3 or 360 fans just bashing how horrid it looks.

Stick to your own games, if you don't like a game don't go in the topics to just bash about it.

'Tis true, they do! So it's not just you. But you already knew that, didn't you? Just let them, they can't stand the fact that Wii will have a FPS that will control infinitely better than their HD offerings, on top of the fact that the game will actually be able to display colours, unlike said HD offerings.

Honestly, they must be scared or something? To make such a fuss over it. Geez. Let it go already, people.

Clearly you've never so much as seen Halo to make a comment like that.  Bioshock had color, as did Mass Effect (shooterish RPG).  Did you ever stop to think that maybe the games that do stick to a palette of browns and grays are doing so as a concious artistic choice?  More than half of Gears of War was either at night or underground, and you just don't see vibrant pinks, greens, and oranges under those conditions.  I'm a fan of at least trying to emulate realism in my games (inasmuch as realism is possible in a video game) and neon colors just don't do that.  I seriously doubt that Nazis and space marines fought/fight in outfits designed by Liberace, and when bombs fling debris all over they don't also magically dye it bright colors.

I should also add:

PS360 owners weren't calling this game generic until Wii owners were trying to pump the game up saying that it looked on par, if not better than XBOX 360/PS3 games.  Up until that point, everything was cool, but when they wanted to compare the game graphically to 360 games, we had to shut it down.  Yes the game looks good, but nowhere close to a Gears, or a Killzone 2, Resistance, etc.  And when they wanted to compare graphics, we had to compare it as a whole.  As wii owners are always saying Gameplay > Graphics, it's weird to have a conversation about graphics with them.  So in terms of gameplay, the game is substandard.  Sci-Fi shooter, done to death.  Sixteen-player online, so what?  Good Graphics, like the other thousand shooters out there.

On paper this game is nothing different than even the worst of PS360 shooters [Haze].  I mean lets be honest.

Haze has 16 player online, and pure graphical power, Haze is in the same realm as The Conduit.  Except Haze had the good thing of being multi-player co-op campaign online and offline, something The Conduit lacks.

Now I'm not comparing Haze and The Conduit, but saying if the bane of FPSs can have that, where do people think that this game stands in PS360 owners eyes'?

The problem is that every time a game gets announced for the Wii and screenshots get released, people try to take down the PS360 graphically for some odd reason, while always proclaiming "Gameplay > Graphics".  The same thing happened with SMG.  There definitely was some talk that the game could hold a candle to some PS360 games, which may or may not be true (I've learned not to get into touchy subjects, lol), but the fact that people try to compare Wii and HD games graphically, yet want to fall back onto "gameplay", is why PS360 owners are upset over all of the praise of The Conduit.  If no one tried to compare the game graphically to PS360 games, we'd be cool, but for some reason, Wii owners aren't happy with having the number one console, and all that good stuff.  They want to take away the graphics from the HD consoles.

It's a shame we can't just have a conversation on the game, and about what we expect from it for something like this to happen, as there is nothing wrong with the game, for the Wii, but compared to HD FPSs, the game is quite dated. But it should have never even been compared to the HD consoles though, then we could just focus on how good the game will be.

Hope this clears the general feelings up.

So in otherwords you're frustrated by the very idea that Wii gamers may no longer be envious of the HD consoles graphics and you feel it your duty to put them in their place and remind them of the obvious which was never in question while asserting such erroneous claims as, "Wii fans were saying PS3/360 graphics suck compared to the Wii so its their fault we're bashing this game", to justify your mitigation of other members' anticipation for this title?

Or maybe your bothered by people being excited about a type of game that the HD consoles already have a ton of and can't understand why they don't just buy an HD console instead of getting excited about a game that doesn't have as good as graphics as the ones on the Hd consoles.

You can't help but find every excuse you can to make passive agressive jabs at this game even in this feigned attempt of yours to sound objective and appologetic. Your reasoning is absurd, "I'm just saying that it looks good for a Wii game, but looks dated compared to the HD consoles", Well no shit genius, if I didn't know any better I'd say that the 360 and PS3 have a higher graphical prowess than the Wii, thank god you're here to remind us of that, we might have forgotten. Gee-Wiz! Maybe that's why we're praising it as a Wii game and not an HD game! It's as if you're afraid we'll forget the HD consoles have better graphics and expect us all the post a disclaimers acknowledging this after any comments of praise about a Wii game.

Owning a Wii does not give you a free ticket to expect people to simply stomach your opinion on face value. You just want to rain on this game's parades which you have no predisposed reason to be excited about and now are grabbing at straws to justify your unecessaraly pointed opinions of this game as simply being you calling it as you see it. There are plenty of people not impressed with this game as well yet most have managed to voice such opinions in a manner far less offensive than you have.

Holy crap, are those really the graphics? Why are people focusing on the graphics? They're not impressive whatsoever! Okay, perhaps my standards have been raised since...you know...I've been playing on consoles where a lot of the focus is on graphics. However, it does look nice stacked up against other games on the Wii which put gameplay over graphics...

It also sounds incredibly cliche and uninspiring too. Hopefully the controls make up for this because everything else about the game looks to be very uninspired.

It's actually kind of funny. The Wii is supposed to be console for "gameply > graphics", yet this game is mostly getting attention because of its graphics.

I find the graphics to be uninspired, they look decent enough, but the environments are quite bare with a lot of wide open space. I realize the game isn't done yet, but I'm not going to close my eyes and imagine what it may look like in a few months.

Finally, (and most importantly) as you pointed out, the Developer doesn't exactly have a strong track record. Just a long list of average games

HVS is not a terrible developer. They just had to make crap games to earn their bread.

....what?

You earn your "bread" by doing hard and/or menial jobs and succeding at them..... and possibly receive little credit at the same time.

You don't earn respect by making crappy games in hopes of one day getting an opportunity to make a great game. I could only imagine that conversation

"wow guys, your last game was the epitome of medicore...and your two games before that flat out bombed! One or two more duds like this and you'll be pumping out the AAA games in no time"

well after looking at the gameplay video i will skip this one.
i rather spend the money in killzone 2, socom or resistance 2

Every site that has hands on time or an in depth preview for the game has nothing but good things to say about it. That has to be worth something. I mean, unless you guys think that by looking at the game you can tell the quality of it. Maybe I should get into the visually reviewing games 9 months before they come out industry. It seems like it would be easy. Does it pay well?

It plays like hell!

You can look at that in whichever way you may prefer.

Also, well done DMJ, that's some of your best posts.

Did you actually try out the game? I'm serious. Did you get your hands on a demo of the game at E3?

No, I was just trying to make fun of myself, but apparently, all attempts at sarcasm fails in this thread.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

The game looks fantastic. But the best feature are the wii controls. I hope more games like this will be published on the wii, because I hate gamepad-controls for shooter.
