Forums - Gaming - 1UP: Top 5 Disappointing Videogame Sequels

C'mon. In 2001, MGS2 got STELLAR reviews. It was arguably the best PS2 game graphically, years after it's release. It's still the most varied (gameplay wise) of all MGS titles. Why this game is so hated is a mystery to me. Raiden wasn't so bad (I actually liked him a lot), and the "crazy" storyline was explained in MGS3/MGS4.

People wouldn't have mind as much about Raiden if we knew about him before the game came out.  The Japanese gamers already knew about Snake being replaced by Raiden yet Kojima hid him from American gamers.  Just got one question, why did he do that?

Super Mario 2 was torture. it even had poisonous mushrooms.
I caught up with Super Mario 2 on Gamecenter CX when Shinya Arino tries to beat Super Mario 2. He succeeds in the infinite lives trick, but it has been capped to 127 lives in Super Mario 2.
The game is pure torture and by the time he reaches level 8 he has a handful of lives left.
He loses most of his lives in a particular jumping puzzle and loses his final life in a simple pit jump.

hardest game ever?

^^ I get ya, Riachu. When the game came out, my cousin said "Getting Raiden was like buying a hooker, getting her home, and finding out she was a tranny". Of course, you're still going to get your money's worth.......

Huh???? I loved MGS2! I liked it more than 3..... but they were both really good IMO

4 ≈ One

Oh yeah, DoC is worse than FFX-2 as a sequel and far worse than CC as a sequel. But I don´t agree with KH2 at all, I actually preferred KH2 over KH1.

The thing about Chrono Cross is that I may have like it better if it wasn't supposed to be a sequel to Chrono Trigger.

As a standalone game, it was a semi-good RPG with too many characters for my liking but as a sequel to Chrono Trigger it was a miserable failure, none of the charm, the combo system gone, barely a mention of the original cast and so many characters you don't even care for one.

So with this logic, I can truly say Chrono Cross is the worst sequel ever.

Change number two to Kingdom Hearts 2
and number one to Dirge of Cerberus

And I'd agree...

I agree with DoC but KH2, I beg to differ

Yeah, most people would disagree with me... But KH one is probably one of my favorite game (I must've beaten it atleast 20 times) and for some reason I got I just hated KH2 it was so god damn boring (Didn't even bother to beat it even once).

I'm gonna back you up on Kingdom Hearts 2, Christhor. I felt the same way while playing through it, don't exactly know why though but there was something missing compared to the first one.  Also, the incredibly boring two hour introduction with Roxas at the beginning didn't help either.

^i dont think that SMB2 is the lost levels one

It is. SMB 2 for NA was a different from the Japanese version

Well,
good thing I wasn't hyped for FFX-2 whatsoever, so I can enjoy it for what it is (I'm currently playing it), a light hearted action rpg with a cast of familiar characters and sceneries with more details.
Had I expected it to be epic and all I would've been dissapointed aswell, I guess.

Wow, people actually prefer KH to KH2? KH is actually the only PS2 game I own and am willing to sell... KH is just so.. kiddy and weak compared to KH2.
