Game sales are heavily dependant on the retail preorders. If Folksoul only got 20k preorders, it was always bound to fail. The number of preorders determine how hard RETAILERS push a game - with promotions, store posters and the like. Releasing on the same week as Zelda & Itaki (sp?) Streets was always going to be real tough.

The real key is whether the game can get close to its 20k sales, or a sell-out of stocks in week#1.

There is a real chance that the PS3 will end up like the PSP - a device that is primarily bought for multimedia/move playback - rather than gaming. This is exactly how Sony are positioning it anyway.

If this happens, you'll see a rather rapid decline in software support for the device - as dev costs are a lot higher than making a game for the PSP.

MS have done a good job of promoting gaming first - and multimedia second.

Ugh, I agree completely.  Why has it come to having your own gaming style insulted?  I hate having kids tell me that I don't know what gaming is.  It really pisses me off.  I play games they way I want to, they should do the same and stop insulting the way I play.

Am I alone when I get the feeling that every Sony fanboy must be younger than 20? I hate bringing ageism into the equation, but seriously ... I wonder if these jokers realize that playing Pac-Man for 15 minutes was "hardcore" in 1981!

Buying an NES with the R.O.B. bundle? As Weird Al would say: White & Nerdy!

I don't think that age or overall maturity is really the most important factor ...

I do expect that a large portion of these gamers were introduced (or reintroduced) to gaming with the Playstation or PS2 after it was no longer such a geeky activity. Those of us who remember hanging out on BBS systems playing LORD and arguing over whether the SNES was better than the Genesis never really considered image to be that important when it came to gaming; on the other hand there are a lot of people who would have never admited to playing videogames until the Playstation or PS2 came along.

I could be wrong but I suspect that why many Sony fans are afraid of the non gamer games are very similar to the guys at the gym who are afraid to try Yoga. Even though it is popular they're afraid of how the activity will impact their reputation.

You guys are on crack! Barren Realms Elite was the best BBS game ever, followed closely by L.O.R.D., I use to run my own board back in the days and as a SysOp I can attest to how badly programmed Usurper was. I also wrote several doors which you guys probably used or saw.

I recently wrote Seth and asked him about reviving L.O.R.D. for another medium.  I offered to help port the app but sadly he had sold the rights of the game off to another company. :(



Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.
