Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: E3 is no longer for showing core games

In one main newspaper that I have read, they showed Nintendo's E3 in good light and they focused on the 1:1 and wii music. I was surprised when I saw this, it was one whole page of the newspaper for nintendo, nothing on microsoft or sony. (microsoft could have been in the day before)

lulz.

Miyamoto says something, and it's law.

All the way leading up to E3: "Core games are coming at E3", "Kid Icarus ZOMFG, E3", "Why would Ninty announce games now, they're announcing them at E3, etc.

E3 comes and goes. No announcement (save for AC). Now everyone's talking about how E3 is "mainstream". Didn't stop Nintendo from announcing Smash, Mario Kart, MP3, Zelda, SMG, etc at E3 before. But the game changed a few hours ago, now E3 is mainstream... Okay then.

Seriously. You guys rag on the whole "PS3 Domination" thing yet do the same thing. Hypocrisy at it's best.

E3 and the multi-media... sigh... I don't think I know a SINGLE non-core gamer that even knows what the hell an "E3" is. It's the core gamers that watch the live streams, that read up on the internet, that click the refresh button every 3 seconds to see what's announced. Not your kid sister, not your grandmother, not "the rest of the world outside of the core".

You have to remember that E3 is a MEDIA event.  It is no longer an event for the public.  While we are definitely concerned about what happens, the main audience is the media.  The mainstream media has taken note of E3, especially with Nintendo's recent mainstream success.  Then, normal people who check sites LIKE MSNBC read about the event.  These people could care less whether Disaster: DoC or Kid Icarus is featured.  This is the audience Nintendo is targetting with E3, and rightfully so.

He knows that core gamers do that, but think about it. It's the MAINSTREAM media that goes to these events too. So whats gonna be reported on the nightly news or whatnot? Its the stuff showcased there. TGS and events like that won't make the news.

E3 is still a big event that get's great media attention, even some in Dutch newspapers, so big games announced at E3 will still directly get a lot of publicity.

Core gamers do that year-round regardless of whether or not E3 is going on.  They are always looking for more information on upcoming games.

E3 gets mainstream press coverage like the New York Times.  A casual gamer surfing the Times website can find their article, and read about what Nintendo has coming up for them.  Coverage like that is hard to get in the video game industry, and is extremely valuable.

If Nintendo had announced Kid Icarus, or Pikmin, or even Zelda, that would have meant nothing to the new audience.

If this is the case then fine, I'll accept this year in and year out. If nothing new gets announced for this Fall though, I call bullshit and this is just Miyamoto doing damage control, like it seemed he was doing with Pikmin. He's been doing an awful lot of explaining about Nintendo's E3 showing, which must mean the questions he's being asked in interviews are nagtively focused, by the "mainstream media". A better balance would have been nice. Maybe Reggie could talk at a normal speed and not appear to be filling time with pauses inbetween all of his sentences and maybe the sales talk could have been cut a few minutes shorter, or the bitch could have been cut from the event altogether. That would have left room for some more games to be added in.

Miyamoto is right, although announcing a game at the E3 will make no harm to anyone.

When's the next event?? TGS? GDC? Any European event? An American one? Some Asian one!?!??!?! Date please :)
