1UP: With your new focus on user-friendly controls and playability, will this approach play into, for example, future iterations of Mario and Zelda? Will this affect game design in any way?

SM: Frankly, some of the so-called "franchise games" are quite difficult for nongamers to play, so making accessible games for these players is key. With Zelda, we have to consider how to make it accessible for new gamers to pick up and play and enjoy just as hardcore gamers have.

I don't really know what to make of this comment. It seems Nintendo want to stop making games that are specifically aimed at hardcore gamers entirely. I still believe that Miyamoto can do wrong with regards to Mario and Zelda, but if he ends up changing the experience and over-simplifying a perfect formula..

I'm worried.

Well, where I once thought Miyamoto flawless, he definitely can make mistakes after seeing Wii Music.

I certainly hope not. I was 11 years old when I beat Zelda, Metroid, Mario, and many other key old school games which were definitely harder than current games. You don't need to make games easier. They just need to be intriguing and make you want to keep retrying until you master it.

I don't know about mistakes Avalach. I think Miyamoto's sort of, retired as a game developer and is instead, exploring different venues for gaming technologies. So to us, it's a mistake. But as a non-game, it's an interesting concept.

Maybe we ought to wait til the game -- Wii Music -- is in final form until we call it a "mistake." 

I can't make judgements from beta demos.

And since it will sell several million copies, I doubt the investors will call it a mistake. I know I plan to get one.
