They should not buy exclusives. They have the talent to create new IPs internally.
Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Well that's what I mean. Versus XIII is a big exclusive to give an example. Should Sony pay to keep FF XIV or other FF XIII spinoffs exclusive? Imo, they should. And don't you guys think they should investing money in Japanese studios? The only good games SCEJ is bringing us is GT 5, Siren and White Knight Chronicles (as a 2nd party game) while SCEE and SCEA are making a shitload of games (SCEE is even trying to attract casuals with SingStar and Buzz). |
Agreed. If they start making money and have a hankering for buying something, they ought to devote all their resources toward going after Level-5. Sony could have them pump out a PS3 RPG every 2-3 years and between those releases they could get Level-5 to pump out a PSP RPG or two. This would be perfect considering the increased adoption rate of PSPs in Japan and the fact that the PS3 needs more Japanese-centric titles.
My Top 5:
Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger
My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3
and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

True, altough an RPG every 2-3 years isn't enough. Besides, Level 5 is showing that they want to be independent with Professor Layton. I wouldn't be surprised if the next big RPG aftes WKC they make will be financed by themselves, not by Sony.
Sony should create a JRPG studio, or at least make some JRPG's in their currently existing studios.
Developing internaly destroys the possibility of them getting ass kicked with future iterations e.g Final Fantasy.

Couldn't they bring Layton over to PSP or PSP2 w/touchscreen?

I guess they could, but they won't. They aren't porting Jeanne D'Arc to the DS either.
Well Jeanne D'arc is published by Sony, that's why.

Agree. They should invest more money in Japan and create more internal studios over there. It may be happening because the president of SCE WWS is Japanese (Shuhei Yoshida).
Although SCEI only have 4 studios in Japan (Clap Hanz, Polyphony Digital, Japan Studio, Team ICO), they are also very productive (especially Japan studio).

I just hope that Sony will start making money soon, so they have more money to purchase new development teams.
Right now, I actually feel excited for Motorstorm 2. The first game was okay, but had a lot of problems, and purchasing Evolution Studios has been a huge advantage for MS2 I believe, with the Sony WW studios thing going on.
So, I don't think they should be spending money on exclusive DLC and small exclusives (unless these are PSN titles turning out good), but they should focus on increasing their internal development capabilities.
I am kind of hoping they will buy MediaMolecule, just to make sure they have those guys in. Even though I know Sony is in desperate need for some JRPG's.
