Reggie on Kid Icarus Wii, says the core shouldn’t feel “left out” with Nintendo’s E3 showing

July 15th, 2008 Posted in DS, News, Wii, Written by Valay

Nintendo’s E3 press conference had some highlights. Overall, however, Nintendo presented a very limited number of “hardcore” games. There was no new Zelda title, barely any mention of Mario, and even the upcoming Wario Land was absent. Reggie Fils-Aime on the other hand, strongly believes that Nintendo has enough games at this year’s E3 to support the core gamer. In a brief interview on G4 following Nintendo’s media briefing, Fils-Aime explained, “How could you feel left out? The Animal Crossing that we’ve been hearing about that people wanted. Fully connected to the Internet, go to other people’s towns. Plus as I said, Grand Theft Auto on the DS. How do you feel left out with those types of announcements?”

Fils-Aime also commented about Kid Icarus for Wii, but essentially dodged the subject: “You know, we never said he was coming. We’ve all seen the rumors and all of what we see as the desires that consumers want. Make no mistake, Mr. Iwata said quite clearly: Mario teams, Zelda teams are working, they’re bringing product out for Wii this generation. We’re going to continue to bring all our best franchises to both of our key platforms and continue driving that experience both core as well as brand new consumers.”

hopfully they will come soon

I knew Reggie wouldn't let us down.

Third parties will also shore up the hardcore offerings, methinks. Look at Capcom and Dead Rising for the Wii. It's coming.

Animal Crossing looks good, but one game is an incredibly weak holiday lineup. I'll probably get ToS as well, but Sonic is going to be better on 360, and Wario Land isn't worth $50 to me. So I was hoping for 1 or 2 more games, as I have no interest at all in Wii music or GTA DS.

How do you know that. Also what about games like, Deadly Creatures, and De Blob? Oh and the force unleashed, and clone wars.

Considering Sonic Team is making the HD version, and Dimps is doing the Wii one, I'm going to go on a limb here and say the Wii version will probably kick the HD versions' rears, if history is anything to go by. And you're right that one game is a weak lineup (although they should more); still, remember last year, where the big guns were shown after the conference (Brawl et. al.), and then recall that Nintendo's still got three days.

We'll be fine, dude.

Heh, hardcore have been patiently waiting for 2 years.. you get Brawl... and it's not enough O.o...

What was expected? Oh well, I'm sure they will eat up whatever Nintendo offers later today if anything.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The only reason someone at this point would just up and say that the 360 verion of Sonic Unleashed will be better is because said someone is a graphics whore.  There's been nothing else revealed about the game aside from a teaser trailer and some screenshots (which all could be done on the Wii).

I agree with the comment about Sonic Team.  Hand them a DS and they'll churn out pure 2-D Sonic gold.  Hand them a console and say "make a 3-D Sonic game," and they'll stumble over their own delusions of grandeur and end up failing big time.

everyone keeps bringing up mario and zelda but am i the only one who's tired of playing the same game over and over again? dont get me wong i dont hate those franchises but i want to see something new!!! they have all of this innovative technology but they wont use it for anything other than wii sports and wii music. and what do we have to play this holiday season? nothing at all. has anyone noticed that after every press conference or briefing that they give weather its TGS or E3 the same question is asked. "what about the core gamer?"
