Forums - Gaming - Who had the best E3 keynote?

Microsoft - C+
Sony - C
Nintendo - D

Awful, awful. Pretty much no new news...

Nintendo one had no core games, all very casual...Microsoft and Sony ones were very boring...

Wii MotionPlus and FFXII were the only "megatons".

My thoughts exactly.

I can't add more than this.

As far as impact among core gamers, and hype on the internet the Microsoft keynote was the best.

In terms of what will have the most impact on the news and in terms of sales Nintendo's was the best.

In order:

Microsoft - 8/10
Sony - 5.5/10
Nintendo - 4.5/10

MS wins in sheer megatonage of XIII on the 360, and the most in terms of actually playable, good games.

Sony had the best presentation aspect of the 3, and the 80gb price drop to $400.

And Nintendo, despite their dry preformance, will sell the most games of all other shown/announced games between Wii Resort/Music.

So you can look at it from multiple ways. N keeps status quo (selling stuff hand over fist), Sony has very little new stuff outside of CG trailers of MAG and GOW3, and MS had the megaton.

I agree... except sony didn't price drop the 80gig.  They just boosted the HD of the 40 gig.  No BC.

Funny how MS wins due to a game that is on the PS3 as well. Yes it was a shocker, but hardly giving it honors of "best showing". Other than that "ONE" announcement, the entire showing was weak.

Nintendo was weak, some things were cool, like the sword fighting in Wii Sports 2, but other than that, it was pretty bad. Want me to be excited for Animal Crossing? Sorry, isn't happening.

Sony showed tons of games, they even made their sales data speech entertaining. They announced two, yes TWO MMO's in MAG and DC Universe, seems like everyone keeps forgetting the other MMO. Let us not forget GOW3, new Ratchet and Clank, new Resistance on PSP, etc... they showed more new games than any other conference and to be honest... as a gamer that is what should matter most.

Easily Sony wins this years E3 IMO.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Final Fantasy is still coming to the PS3.

Had it been exclusive, MS may have won, but making a game multi-plat doesn't do that.

Did MS win in E3 06 when GTA IV went to 360? No. Going Multi-plat doesn't equal a win.

They have gotten several of the most rabid Sony fanboys (and I say that in the nicest possible way ) to second guess their purchase or possibly cancel a future planned purchase of a PS3.  That is MASSIVE!

How many PS3s will move because of MAG?
How many PS3s won't move because of FFXIII going to 360?

That is why I think the FFXIII announcement was massive enough to give MS this E3.

Stupidest comment about the conferences yet.

The un-mentioned parts of the MS keynote, and following Live updates were huge

Netflix = Free movies on your X360 for Netflix users.

Copying all X360 games to HD as an option.

Actual GAME DEMONSTRATIONS of Xbox 360 games. No trailers. Actual games that launch this year.

MAG was the only new game announced by Sony. Microsoft announced FFXIII for 360. Which one is bigger to their userbase?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I'm not surprised by Nintendo not doing much more for this show. When you are on top, you get complacent. Let second and third place bend over backwards trying to catch up! I expected to be dissapointed by them, but not THIS badly. The new controller add-on holds a lot of promise, though, so I give them an Incomplete. I'm looking forward to swinging some crazy lightsabers.

I think Sony had some effective damage control after losing exclusivity of one of their most anticipated titles. God of War 3, MAG, Resistance 2 and the rest of the games look quite nice. Kudos to them for showing the most games. The newly priced 80 GB SKU is cool, but no BC sucks big time. The problem I have with them is that most of their stuff is about the near-future (as in 2009 and beyond), while 360 I think is focused more on the PLAY GREAT GAMES RIGHT NOW mentality.

Microsoft had the biggest megaton announcement by stealing Sony's Thunder with the Final Fantasy announcement. They also showed the Avatar thing. Hmmm... So two of their big news is directly related to stealing games from or copying the competition. They definitely lose style points. Fable 2 and Gears 2 looked sweet, though. In the end, I think securing Final Fantasy for their console was all they had to do. It may not be very creative on their part, but at least I think it will have some kind of impact in market positioning.

One final note, however: ''winning'' the E3 does not guarantee anything.
I still think current sales trends will be in line with we have seen so far in 2008.

Make sure the shadow you chase is not the one you cast.

E3 blew this year.

I told you guys it would in the roundtable, but no one believed me. We got like 3 new games announced, and they were all expected (MAG was leaked on gaf before the conference as well, and shooters with that many people never work). For me, the #1 announcement was R&CF:QfB, and #2 was Animal Crossing Wii. I really didn't care about much else, and all of it was expected. I rated the 3 conferences 7/10 for MS, 7/10 for Nintendo, and 8/10 for Sony. Horrible E3, but yeah... E3 is dead.
