So do we count HSG5 bundles?

The difference between the wii sports pack in in the USA is that you don't have a choice whether to get it or not... it's automatically there. The HSG5, trusty bell, and blue dragon pack ins have different price points/skus and you can still buy the system without the pack-in.

I think count them all, I don't know anyone who didn't at least TRY Wii Sports.

Trying doesn't mean that they would buy it... I'll try anything for free (well... almost anything   But that doesn't mean i'd buy it... hell, if they packed bomberman: act zero into every 360 I'd at least try it... but I would never actually pay money for it.

I think it unfairly inflats wii software sales in the USA because people can not opt out of buying it... its like if AOL counted every free disc they sent out as a sale.

It's not free though...the price of the game is part of the deal.

FishyJoe, this isn't the same thing. For one, you can go to a Japanese store and buy a 20gb or 60gb PS3 with no games. After HSG5 releases, you will STILL be able to get a regular console.

In NA and Europe, you CANNOT buy a plain old Wii without Wii Sports.

That being said, this site will continue to count Wii Sports and Wii Play as sales whether people like it or not.

I can understand the complaint about Wii Sports (though it's easy to subtract from the total if you don't like to have it - as easy as it would be to add it, mind you, so despite me agreeing with it being there, for me this point is totally moot).

But Wii Play must be there. It's exactly the same thing as a console bundle really. You can buy the remote without it and save money that way. If anything, the remote is force bundled with the game - not the other way around. It might somewhat inflate sales (as compared to selling the game for $10-20), but so does a console bundle if it makes buying the game (and the console) a better deal. Other games come with bundled peripherals too (DDR, GH, ET: Whatever, Singstar, Buzz), and are reported exactly the same. Also, we wouldn't have any sales data for it if it weren't reported.

I agree, KruzeS, but others don't. I don't care if they did or didn't count Wii Sports, but there should be absolutely no debate about Wii Play, yet there has been.

But I do think Wii Play is unique from the other games you mentioned. You can buy a Guitar Hero game or a DDR game by itself without getting the peripheral, especially since they have many iterations of those games. Wii Play you absolutely cannot get without the controller, unless someone is ditching it on ebay or something. If you don't want the game though, you can get the controller for cheaper.

True, I think that wii play is fine... its wii sports that i always subtract for myself...
