Forums - Nintendo - Wii Remote D-Pad Wearing Out?

The d-pad on one of my Wii remotes seems to be faulty. It won't register diagonals unless I apply a large amount of pressure to it. Also, directions seem to stick. If I press right, for instance, sometimes the control won't stop registering that I've pressed right 'till about a second after I let go. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is the d-pad wearing out? Is it curable? Suggestions welcome.

You could try taking it apart and cleaning it, though that could do more harm than good.

A Nintendo D-Pad being anything less than perfection!?!?!? Insanity.

They usually need cleaning, but I wouldn't trust myself to take one of these apart. Maybe you could squirt into the D-Pad from every direction with an air can and see if it helps.

^like they said you probably need to clean it

Nothing is wrong with my D-Pad on my Wii, but the battery cover gets very dirty, even with the condom on. I just gave it a thorough cleaning, and now it's as white as snow.

I never had that problem before...

What do you even use that for?

you mean the d-pad?  as the name would suggest, moving in different directions...

Well, a bit of an update. After looking at a few guides to taking Wii remotes apart on the Internet, I've decided that it's probably not worth the hassle. I don't have an air can, Rubang, but I did try blowing into it *really* hard. Unfortunately, no go. I even tried scraping the insides with an IC extractor, but that just ended up scratching the remote.

Thanks everyone for their help. I was hoping there'd be a simple solution (like the one for a malfunctioning motion sensor). I'm going to buy a new Wii remote to replace it and keep the old one around as a spare.

@windbane: I've mainly be playing Star Soldier R with it. It is possible that I may have pressed to hard on it at times, but I thought Nintendo controllers were practically bulletproof.

It's always best to wash your hands when playing with your waggle wand.
