the wii wont beat the ps2 sales, never, it has no long term appeal. trust me it will pass.

once one reaches 120 million in sales it will be ..... just because it had great games xbox had live and Nintendo was focoused on little kids and still is

I agree that no console will probably ever have the same marketshare as the PS2 did , but saleswise it could happen . Of course even if the Wii sells over 150 million the PS3 and 360 will probably be in the 80-90 million sales combined , so yeah it wont be a PS2 vs GCXbox scenario ...

Well I'm looking at the hardware from launch, and to me, it looks like Wii > PS2 > PS3.  The PS3 only looks like it is doing as well as the PS2 did when you align the launches.  But since the PS2 had a very staggered launch, and the PS3 had a mostly simultaneous launch, you have to look at the numbers by region to see the true story.

In other words, the aligned launches graph doesn't align each regions launch, just the very first day that the console was available anywhere in the world.

Even if you only look at the world wide graph, it is easy to see that the PS2 is going to take off in about 6 weeks, and the PS3 has no chance of keeping up.

the wii is not selling more than the ps2.

check your numbers, the ps2 boom was after the third year after 2002 they are a huge bumb in sales.

 

also all the third parties games are going ps3 or xbox360.

wii--> only nintendo love.

thats why its won't reign supreme like the ps2 did.

right now the market is split 54% ps3+xbox360 - 46% wii

 

nintendo have played all its card, wii sales are high due many exclusive made by nintendo throw in the first 2 years of release. wii fit, brawl, galaxy, mario kart, zelda.

that sadly won't hold it for more, i expect 2009 to be a year of third party remakes, and brawl 2 kart 2 and zelda tl 2.

with minor improvements :(

 the bolded ones are either not that gret, ive never heard of them or they havent been announced. and if afrika is the game i am thinking of then its a bad copy of pokemon snap with bad graphics.

OT:the wii sales have the ability to pass ps2 if there is at least a 5 hopefully 6 year gap in between it and the next nintendo console. if there is any less than the new console will teake sales away. if there is more then the wii will beat the ps2. if it does beat the ps2 by only a few million there will be only one reason. I BLAME WII FIT!



the nintendo wii will outsell the ps3 and the 360 combined by the end of 2008.                           

        PS3 will out sell the 360 june 2010.                                                                      

  GOTY of 2008 is super smash brothers brawl.... hopefully.

Did you look at the links I posted?  The Wii is currently ahead of the PS2 in all regions in the same point in it's lifespan.  Here's another link that show a long term view.

It looks to me like the Wii can continue to track ahead of the PS2 as long as Nintendo does a decent job of maintaining the current rate of sales.

Also, there will not be a Brawl 2 or a Kart 2 in the lifetime of the Wii.  Certainly not in 2009, especially since these games take years to make.

There are some people on this site that predict 500 million Wiis to be sold.

I find it odd just predicting it to outsell the PS2 because the PS2 is still seling well and isn't even $100 yet.
