Does anybody else think it is so weird that nintendo's conference was far shorter than microsofts, and is turning out to be shorter than Sony's. I wonder if they have some event coming up.

@SC: I definitely think they have something planned--their event was almost a full half-hour shorter than the competition.
They had some good stuff there, and I don't doubt they'll be giving us more as the week goes on (see last year for one example). I'm still let down by how crappy the conference was, though.

Has nobody told you Austrians that Euro2008 actually finished?

You're absolutely right! If they could convince Namco to make a new Tales for Wii that would be awesome. Or even better: a stealth Ninja game. The absolute highlight would be if Tecmo were to make a survival horror of course, but i'm afraid we'll never see that happening. Mega Man would be awesome as well. I hope for a 2D one. I guess we have to wait for another two years before they finally releas downloadable content for something like Guitar Hero on Wii. And of course Activision has to use a completely different engine to build Call of Duty 5 on. |
Just had to follow this one up again :P
There entire conference was aimed at two groups of people. Drawing non combat gamers into gaming and developers that haven't fully jumped on board.
This was the obvious path for Nintendo conference. It's spotlight to sell it's product and it's name. Are they going to target the combat gamers? They have those games coming we all know about some of them. Fatal Frame, Tenchu.... Why do we know about them. We are internet geeks. The media who the conference is for now sees this. I assure there are some more media than just IGN. How about Time, New Yorker, other standard media. Media that isn't for internet geeks. Nintendo conference just made them disgusting amounts of money. Even if it wasn't exactly interesting. I for one walked away when WiiMusic was playing. I knew that was pretty much it.
Then there are the developers. Seriously sandbox GTA DS? Totoally f'n cool. WiiMotion plus with WiiSports Resort. That's such a tech demo.
They did not tell us what you want. They told you information that gaming is going to mainstream in everyones lives. They told us that gaming is changing. Will there sill be GTA, DMC, FF games. Yes, but we should expect more than just combat=hardcore gaming. We should expect to leave the old style of values of just graphics and move to interaction. I would love to see GTA with better Godfather Black Hand controls.
Disruption will cause the incumbent to scratch it's head.
Sony however still needs to capture a market. Since it's likely that Sony people don't get the new values. They will probably try to put on a show to atract the harcore/combat gamer.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
People come on now. We are getting GTA and call of Duty 5. We get are voice chat system and better controls. We are getting everything and more that we wanted. Maybe not the hardcore new game me and you all wanted, but still we are getting a lot. There are a ton of hardcore games coming out for the Wii that we did not see on there press conference. There is still hope that maybe they will show them off later today, but we know we have a ton of good games coming out like Reggie said. That is also why they only showed 3 and not a whole slew of them. They did not have enough time and as we all know they are trying to get everyone into gaming. So I think they did a fine job and they have 2 games that they showed today that I am going to buy. I would give them a B+ and or a 8/10. stop all your crying and just think about it people. We are getting what we want and more!!!
so what was that game Reggie said will be for core games out this winter?

But seriously, you better be right man otherwise its madworld time.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, what we didn't get was a storage solution and a big 'hardcore' game, eg Zelda or Mario. But we did get some fun new casual games, a 1:1 motion control, a voice chat solution! Also, I'm pretty sure Nintendo has more to show us this E3.
