Forums - Gaming - 9 Ways the N64 Changed Gaming

The N64 was an awesome console. Goldeneye is still the best console FPS. However... I have to dispute a few of these points

Upgradable ram: How did this change gaming? It was such a bad idea no one has done it since. *edit* didn't SEGA have this on the Saturn as well? I'm pretty sure other consoles have done it before that as well. Though not any of the other traditional modern era... A term which I have invented to mean, NES and above. To the best of my knowledge anyway.

Unbreakable: Surely this was something nintendo always had. I've never personally had anyone tell me their NES or SNES broke.

Hand it to them: Console to handheld link up is still a pretty niche feature. There are very few games about that use it. Major part of gaming....

Great system....Many great games....

Mario 64
Mario Kart 64
Pilotwings 64
Wave Race
Paper Mario
StarFox 64 (the last good SF game, IMO)
Goldeneye 007
Banjo Kazooie
Zelda OOT
Conker
Perfect Dark

Actually, I'd give 3D gaming credit to Alone in the Dark and a couple of other contemporary PC titles. It did change 3D gaming for consoles though!

I have two of these beasts both set up. It has the sexiest design of any console.

I also have a Pikachu N64 and the original one. God, I love this console...

I love my N64.
Punching a cartridge in the console brings me good old memories. =P

The way you had to hold the controller was awkward, but damn if the thing didn't look nice! I used to put it beside my Nes and Snes controllers and just look at the thing. Damn, I was such a dork.

Were there any games that let you control the camera, before Mario 64? If there were, I certainly don't recall them.

I love the N64 and all(I own one)

But most of those "innovations" came from the ps1..
