Am I a total jerk if I say I would probably not give a shit? They are just people on the internet, you know. If I'm supposed to feel sad every time a random person dies, I won't have a life - as long as I don't know you personally, you remain a 'random person' to me. I'd feel like a hypocrite if I were actually sad about you, while all you were to me was an avatar and a username.

If it's a good friend who I mingle with regularly then yes I would definitely be devastated.
The sad thing is, we probably won't even know if someone here we're "friends" with has passed away. We would probably just brush it off thinking he/she found something better to do.
